Getting implants: terrified

On September 7th I’m getting 22 implants placed. Up until yesterday I was super excited and couldn’t wait to start the process. It’s been almost a year since my extractions. However the past two nights as it looms ever closer that excitement has been replaced by utter terror. You see when I had my extraction surgery things went horribly wrong due to a allergic reaction to nickel (that we didn’t know I had) that landed me 7 hours in the or and 18 days in the hospital. That keeps playing through my mind now and it’s not exactly comforting...I know it won’t happen again because we know this time but honestly I’m terrified and am having panic attacks at this point.

Do you mean 22 different dental implants in one mouth!? Or are you having different types of implants throughout your body? I can't understand why 22? I've had patient who wanted me to save a few teeth and therefore ended up with more implants than if I had taken them all out.
Can you provide details?

22 dental implants. I only have 10 (soon to be nine due to a abscess) natural teeth left. I have to replace 22 of them.

I have never seen a patient that needed that many implants. It is also difficult for me to come up with a situation where that makes sense.

I don’t have them on me. I can try to describe my mouth...I have one bottom tooth on the left side and five top teeth on the left side (all molars) on the right side I have two bottom teeth and two top teeth. (All molars) so I have no front teeth at all top or bottom and am missing a lot of bottom molars. My dentist said I was a candidate for single tooth implants instead of bridged implants...since I’m missing 22 teeth I take that as 22 individual implants.

There is one thing I keep wondering about - it sounds to me that you didn't really get enough information about what is planned. This is a bit unusual for a procedure like implants, as you have to agree on it and in order to do so you need to know what your dentist/surgeon would like to do and how and also some background information.
I don't know where you are from and how the regulations in your country are, but usually you should get a planning appointment with a lot of technical details and then, after having understood the particularities, you would make an appointment to do the surgery..
If there is anything unclear for you about what will happen on 7th, please contact your practice and get some information..

Thanks for the answer but I was actually NOT comforted at all by his/her reply. I’m already terrified I don’t want to hear about problems. I already had my consultation appointment back in February so my memory is abit cloudy on the specifics of it.

Hi,I can see why your terrified+im also waiting for full implants but 20+ seems like an awfull lot. My consultant mentioned something like 6 on top 6 on bottom,surely doing individual ones would be more complicated/expensive? hope it goes ok tho.

I could imagine how you could place 11 in each arch but I never have seen the need for that many.

I don’t know maybe I was mistaken. I know he said after the implants are done I won’t need partials anymore and I’ll have a normal functioning mouth again. I assume that means I’ll have most of my teeth back.

I would also like to know what the problem/scare is about? Wolf is missing a lot of teeth and he or she is getting implants to have individual teeth restored back in his or her mouth. If Wolf can pay for it, why is this something Wolf wouldn't want?

I'm sure there's lots of people on here that want/need several implants but from what I've read/been told they wouldn't do that many individually.

I’m actually not. It’s being covered by insurance as my tooth loss was related to medications I’ve had to take for my Cystic Fibrosis.

I'm no expert just saying what I've been told (I'm in the same boat) not sure what flossing has to do with it. What country are you in wolf?
