Such a wimp going for a checkup tomorrow and is worries about it I'm worried I won't go back for treatment when I need it x

:welcome: the dentist will only have a look at your mouth and teeth if you feel comfortable with that happening. They may also want to take an x ray. Move at a pace that you feel comfortable with, once you know what treatment, if any, you may need it is easier to deal with. As long as your dentist makes you feel comfortable they can help ease your worries about any treatment.

Good luck :clover::clover::clover::clover::clover: let us know how you get on. :butterfly:

So, so glad you've taken action following your previous thread, Carlia.

We're all rooting for you!

As Carole says, this'll be a gentle re-introduction...nothing really to worry about.

This time tomorrow: between you and your dentist, you'll have 'a plan'.

...I can't speak for you, but 'the plan' alone made things easier for me. Made it easier to deal with 'the shame'.

'The plan' is something real, and therefore something to focus on. Even look forward to!

Sincerely -- best wishes,
Steve

Hi Carlia,

I believe that 99% of overcoming the dental anxiety is by establishing a trustful relationship with the dentist.
That is to say that it will take time until you feel comfortable enough in letting a person in your mouth.
This appointment is a great opportunity for you in the direction of building such a relationship. See how you feel with his person, does it click or not. It would be useful to share your fears and concerns and than see how the dentist reacts: does the dentist offer a solution or an explanation that answers your needs? Does the dentist take responsibility not only for the dental work but also for you well-being during the treatment itself?

One possible catch you should be aware to: Since anxiety can be a very strong and even overwhelming emotion, it can be so dominant during the check up appointment to the degree that the real person (this specific dentist) and the situation are a bit neglected from the consciousness at that moment and instead the mind is being busy only with the fear. So even though the anxiety will appear please try to stay open and see how you feel with your dentist. If it does not work out, go to another dentist (not at the same day though), and if you feel it might work out, continue carefully and gradually in the direction of trustful relationship.

I hope it helped a bit.
All the best

Didn't sleep to well. My appt is at twelve and I'm more concerned that my mum, who is coming with me, has a meeting afterwards. Feels a bit rushed. Thanks for all your help will let you know how I get on x
