Hi I have been putting of going to the dentist for over 20yrs due to having a major phobia and severe anxiety. I plucked up the currage to go and get some advice, but now my anxiety is high again as they have told me I need 14 teeth and but 7 at a time. I was offered the injection in gums only with no sedation. I also have stage 4 gum disease which they think may be due to diabetes for which I am waiting to see the Dr for. My anxiety is getting worse due to thinking about having my teeth removed, and my phobia. All I can think of is as a small child when I use to have 4 teeth removed nearly every time I went. I have mentioned sedation of some sort but this isn't offered for tooth extraction s. So I now am not sure what to do.

just had two teeth extracted. go to a dentist that offers iv sedation. didn’t feel a thing. asleep the whole time worth the money

Hi @Dididi, well done for plucking up the courage to go! Only a small percentage of dentists offer sedation, and NHS dentists even less so. HOWEVER, you can ask for a referral to the Community Dental Services in order to get treatment under sedation:

Just be aware that in some areas, waiting lists may be long, but well worth finding out what is actually available to you!

Or if it is financially feasible, some private dentists also offer IV sedation. You can get some tips for finding a dentist who is good with anxious patients here:

I hope some of this helps 🤗
