Has anyone had a crown lengthening procedure?

Has anyone out there had a crown lengthening procedure? I broke a tooth and the dentist tried to put a crown on it, but the lab couldn't make it because there isn't enough tooth left. I am told they have to do a crown lengthening, which sounds gruesome to me!! I cry, kick and yell just getting my teeth cleaned....I made it through the crown prep with two dentists and several visits and now I am really scared. I have read about Halcion and I am afraid to take it....I will use nitrice however. Can you feel them drilling on your bone when they do this procedure? How do they numb the bone? Also, the temp. crown won't stay on so I am now walking around with nothing on that tooth...will that be ok for a week??? The tech even put permanent cement on it after it came off the 3rd time, but it fell off tonight again.
Does anyone have any answers for me?? I am very anxious and am afraid I won't be able to get through this procedure....help!!

I'm a dentist and I've had it 2x before and when done properly you get nice healthy results.
