how long for bleeding to stop

hi, i wonder if someone whos had it done or a dentist could tell me how long it will take my teeth to stop bleeding after extractions i just had 4 removed today and an immediate denture fitted , i had some taken out the other side last week that were easier than these last 4 and they didnt bleed much at all , these are bleeding quite a bit thoughi keep spitting it out because its making me a bit nauesous . The partial is brilliantly comfortable though at the moment , the dentist said to keep it in for at least 48 hours. Are they bleeding more because they were difficult extractions? such a relief its done but now im worried incase something goes wrong..

Try to stop spitting out, you're disturbing the clotting process and are probably prolonging the bleeding

Are you taking anything like aspirin which can cause sockets to sort of ooze for a while after extractions.

How long since the extractions? If it's more than 6 hrs get onto the dentist and ask them to take a wee look at you.

ok , will stop spitting now ( lol , just makes me feel nauseous is all and my absolute fear/phobia is emeptaphobia ) but will take your word for this...

I had the extractions done at 10.00-ish this morning, the difficult one came out at probabaly around 10 to 11 so its been just 6 hours now , its difficult to tell how much blood is coming away i just know when i spit there is blood in the saliva and i can taste it in my mouth , my immediates are placed on the site tho so i cant see it and was told not to remove them ( would be scared to anyway to be honest ) ...i dont have any pain as such from the teeth themselves just a bit sore but my temple is throbbing and i digure this is down to the pushing and pulling of terying to remove that difficult upper back tooth , i thought i was going to be puished right off the end of the chiar , god that hurt...

that tooth had a small abcess over it and could that be why its still weeping/bleeding , i wasnt given any antibiotics. I live a long way from the dentist and dont drive so getting back tonight unless its an energancy isnt going to be easy...do you think it will be alright to leave until the morning , if i stop spitting? ...how much blood is ok?

oh im so sorry to ask all this bazzilion questions and i do appreciate the replys!

If there's only a wee trace of blood in your saliva then don't worry about it, the top layer of the blood clot can get washed off by the saliva and it makes it look like your bleeding a lot when you aren't really.
If there's a lot of blood in your mouth then that's a bit more serious, can you post back if you are? I'll check on here again in an hour or so...

LIBS.....I had 16 extractions done a few weeks ago. I had some bleeding for several hours after the surgery. It looked like a lot of blood but it was mixed with saliva so it looked worse than it actually was. I didn't do any spitting except to rinse my mouth occassionally....and slept with my head elevated. Hope your bleeding will slow down and you can get some rest!

Hi Gorden, thanks for giving a damn firstly , makes me feel a lot better. I think the bleeding has slowed a little bit, when i spit the spit is still streaked with blood though ( only spitting to test now not to get rid of it ) im hoping this is going to be ok. Its not -mouthfulls- of blood though. The taste in my mouth however is horrid , i dont know if thats the blood though or the abcess from under that tooth draining now.

If it continues bleeding i fogured i would take out the partial and put in the gauze but thats a last resort because i really wanted to leave it alone. Im doing well and eating with it in , had soup and pasta and now im eating some quavers!...but only chewing on the side thats not been worked on today. eating makes me feel better because the horrid taste goes away a while, soon comes back when ive stopped so am also drinking countless cups of -warm- not hot tea...

The swallowing of the blood earlier made me feel like i was going to throw up so ive taken some anti sickness tablets and hope that will calm it down.

Also Gorden , can I rinse my mouth out now , im worried with all this food ive been eating it might get infected under there , the partial is a good fir , but food goes under the palate part because its not snug to the roof of my mouth at all x

A small streak of blood in your saliva is perfectly normal. There is a pretty horrid taste in your mouth after extractions, pretty normal. Try rinsing with salt water now.

Don't touch the denture, disturbing it will only make bleeding worse, no point in disturbing things at this stage.
