How long should aching last after the first cleaning in a long time?

1 month ago I had my first regular cleaning in nearly 20 years. Is it normal for achiness to still be present after a month?
I've been told I have gum disease and the achiness is occurring around an area that does seem to be a little inflamed. The pain started about a week after my cleaning and occurs randomly at least once a week. *edit* I do NOT have any sensitivity to touch, pressure or temperature there.

I called the office today and spoke to the dentist I had seen that very first day. He said that it might be decay, take some Advil, and they'll check it out at my next appointment in a few weeks...Gee, thanks for upping my anxiety. It says right in my file that I have dental anxiety.

-During my first appointment, I had a full set of X-rays done and only saw a dentist long enough for him to casually mention I have periodontal disease and will need a deep cleaning.
-The second appointment, my cleaning, the other dentist in the practice declared I had 4 cavities, all small on the surfaces of my 2nd molars, and that I needed my wisdom teeth and ectopic cuspid pulled. He also confirmed a deep cleaning should be done, but can be put off for a couple of months for me to save the $ since my insurance doesn't cover it.
-I've had the fillings on half my mouth done 2 weeks ago.
-My teeth were extracted last week.
-I was supposed to have the rest of my fillings done yesterday, but the extraction sites on that side didn't heal fast enough, so my appointment has been postponed for a few weeks. I had wanted to talk to the dentist about this issue, but my mind always blanks once I arrive in the parking lot lol.

Hi!

I am not a dentist, but in my mind, having pain one month after a cleaning is not normal. In my case, cleanings are unpleasant and sometimes painful but I have no pain after few minutes. Are you sure that your other dental works are not involved in your pain?

Well it is on the same side as the two fillings I still need to get done. The pain is coming from the area around the bottom left incisors, while the cavity I have on that side is in the 2nd molar and supposedly not that deep.

The pain started before I had the first 2 fillings done and the extractions.

I forgot to mention that I was thinking it was possibly a gum issue because it is a bit sore when I floss between those teeth.

I did have a lot of build up removed from that area during my cleaning. If I remember correctly, I might have even flinched when she worked that spot.

I normally have some sensitivity after a cleaning but just a couple days.....even after my deep cleaning it went away quickly.

I'd try warm salt water rinses for the time being until your appointment and also makes sure you use a soft brush, I've had gum disease before too and it makes the gums so sensitive. avoid alcohol in mouthwash too.

good luck!
