I am so depressed, I am noticing so many problems with my teeth that i never thought i had. Some of my teeth at the lower front are feeling "kinda" numb, i havnt had my mouth numbed from dentist in a while now. When i bite down on some front tooth they feel like they are numb or tight kind of and like it is being pushed down further into the gum. And one misaligned tooth also when i push the tooth from the inside of my mouth on the side of the tooth it feels like it gets kind of stuck and then comes out again or goes back to usual position. What could these be, are these teth becoming loose, will i eventually loose them. I am thinkg alsorts, it takes me a while to sleep with the worry. The dentist did a cleaning about 2 monthes ago and i have to go back in 3 monthes for another cleaning. He never mentioned any looses teeth. I dont know if i have bad gum disease or minor becuase he never said anything, i did have a lot of build up on these teeth which are now gone and i am doing everything possible to keep it away and i am really taking care of them ( not that i have never taken care of them because i have never neglected them) i am just making more and more effort but more problems arise, i just want them to go away and the dentist said i can only return in 3 monthes time (NHS). I feel alone, so alone and that these problems will nver be sorted, i will be toothless at 21. I really cannot go private and thats the truth, no matter what i do, what i change i wouldnt be able to go private, i feel that nothing ids being sorted. What can i do, where else can i go for help? I live in England. Even the inlay tooth was hurting last night, i had to take painkillers, so there must be an underlying problem but the dentist says the usual its just settling down, i dont want to drill into the tooth anymore as it will weaken. I feel like locking myself in a cupboard and never coming out. Its ruining my life, i dont feel like doing the usual things i enjoy. What can i do. I have no hope left. I am getting very depressed and its affecting other problems i have and i dont know what to do. I just wanted to tslk and ask questions about what could be wrong with my teeth. Sorry its so depressive but this is how i am feeling and have been feeling for the past year

I am becoming really worried and i feel i have no options to get my teeth treated.

hi
i was sorry to read that you are having such an awful time right now and it sounds like this has all really got you down, but there are things that can be done.
it is hard to give you answers specifically about your teeth without a proper check up etc, but if the dentist hasn't spoken with you about any specific issues then things are perhaps better than you may have thought.
another thought is about the tooth which has had the inlay. yes- sometimes it can take a while for a treated tooth to calm down but as you know it can also be a sign of a problem with the nerve. If the pain is getting to be more than a niggle- then you must contact the dentist and let them know. to be honest- if you have been stressed and are perhaps clenching or grinding- then this tooth would be the first to feel tender if it was recently worked on. regarding the loose teeth- be aware that after a scaling- if alot of calculus is removed, the teeth may feel a little more mobile to begin with as although the calculus is causing the gum problem- it also kind of splints the teeth together. they should get less mobile as time passes.

If you are having problems - the dentist MUST see you within a reasonable amount of time. They cannot tell you that you can't return for 3 months. Just because you are an NHS patient doesn't mean that you can't access treatment when you need it. If you feel that you are still having problems- then call the dentist asap and get an appointment for them to talk to you about your concerns. you have every right to get the answers to your questions.

my main advice to you is that you should consider having a word with you doctor about how down all of this has got you. you use the word 'depressed' in your post a few times. Now I'm not qualified to diagnose clinical depression - and am giving advice online having never met you so it would be inappropriate for me to suggest that this is what is going on, however what I do think is that you are obviously feeling very down right now, and the concerns and negative thoughts about your teeth are filling more of your thoughts than they should. your doctor will be able to help you with this.

You know that you have the support of everyone here and although we are real people, we can only support you through words on a screen. As much as I hope that this has a huge positive effect for you, and that through these words you know that you do have support and people who care about what is happening- I think it will help you even more helpful if you can chat to someone face to face about how you are feeling so that you can begin to find the solutions and resources to move forward in a positive way- call your doctor.

Let us know how things go

Best wishes

Dr Mike

Thank you DRMike it is really nice for people like to you care and give anyone advise and suport and i do think this site is fantastic, i am due to see a councellor at the end of this month about another problem which i will have an assessment for so i can also talk about this but i will take your advise ad talk to someone else before that and i will be trying to get this out of my head for a while,i enjoy going to the beach and things like that and when i go i can forget about my problem, its when i get home that i think about it a lot and thats something i need to work on because like you said this problem shouldnt be stuck there as much as it is. I am aware that something is wrong with my feelings at the moment because i have never felt like this before. I am aware i cring my teeth and i told the dentist about it but he said he needs more evividence to get me a night guard. I will let you know along the way and than you so much for your time and support.

Hi Dentist Hater,
I can understand how you feel so you are not alone. I feel depressed quite a bit over the state of how my teeth were and how I feel some of them still are. It's terrible how our minds make us feel sometimes. I too am fine when I am away from home but when I do get home I think all the time about my teeth yet again. I used to look in the mirror all of the time and every little thing I felt I convinced myself was a huge NEW problem. I would look in the mirror every 30 minutes, at work, home, in the car, in my compact, etc. It became crazy.

I think the best thing I have learned so far is that I have been to the dentist so many times and she has never hurt me. As a result, I have to learn to accept what she tells me...that things are ok and we will stay on top of what needs to be taken care of. It all boils down to trusting what your dentist says is true. The next step for me was to stop looking in the mirror all of the time and when I get that depressive feeling to grab my keys and go for a walk or a drive.
It is not easy in the least bit but I am starting to realize that by being depressed like this all of the time causes me to miss out on so many good things in life. I hope that you can find something you like to do and let that be your escape when you feel lousy.
Big hugs to you..
