Infection following root canal

Hi guys
I have to say I've found a fantastic dentist as well as a fantastic forum! Thanks for all your help seeing as I hadnt been for years and had to have a tooth extraction which then got dry socket. I then had a root canal, just the usual pain after but ok with the temporary filling. Had remainder of root canal yesterday and woke in the night IN AGONY!! Tooth hurt to touch, throbbing and stabbing all over cheek up to ear in jaw etc like abcess.

Went to emergency dentist, he gave me two lots of antibiotics, will this cure it or will I have to have it re-done?
He mentioned it was a good rc as he took his time and I saw the xray but my tooth has one of those tiny bits he cant fill. Will the antibiotics work?

ps it also feels tight and sore round the gums as well as the tooth being agony to touch, its causing ear pain and headache too, is it supposed to be like this? The infection in the first place was quite deep and quite nasty as i did nothing about it for months and months as i was scared. Thanks

It's really impossible to say what'll happen without seeing x-rays. Hopefully the antibiotics have got you out of pain by now though.
