Initial root canal treatment. What does this mean

I have a broken upper right incisor that's been infected and needs root canal treatment. I've been given a schedule that involves an initial treatment, followed by completion 3-4 weeks later. I've had RCT done before, but it was all in one appointment, so can anyone explain what will be done at this initial treatment? Just looking for some info.

Also - any dentists who might read this: The tooth is basically broken from top to bottom with about a third of it missing. I know you can't give any definitive answwer without seeing it, but will a "composite reconstruction" be really, really obvious - or can a good dentist (as mine is) make it blend pretty well. I just assumed I'd have to have it crowned.

The initial treatment consists of basically getting rid of the infected nerve, cleaning out the pulp chamber and filing the canals so that they are free of all bacteria. Once that is done the canal are filled with gutta parcha and a temporary crown is put in place to protect the cleaned canals. Before they go and start doing a post build up and such the Endo or DDS needs to ensure the treatment was a success. Once that is done more restorative work such as a post will be put in and what not. BTW don;t fear an RCT my fired. I used to and my first RCT was like having the most annoying painful itch in the world scratched. As for reconstruction it will not be obvious at all if the restorative work is of even marginal quality. It will look like a normal tooth unless a gold crown is used.
