Is it okay to wait months and months to treat an infection around a wisdom tooth?

It took two months to get a dentist appointment, and he said I have an infection in or around my wisdom tooth but it will take another two months before I can get another appointment to have it taken out.

So I'm basically freaking out because I have to have that surgery, but I am even more freaked out because I have to wait so long for the appointment. I'm really afraid that the infection will get worse while I wait but it actually hurts less now than when I first started trying to get an appointment, so maybe it's okay?

Waiting is going to be really hard, I'm trying not to think about it but I want this over so I can focus on other things in my life.

But basically do you think it's okay to wait that long with an infected tooth, they didn't give me antibiotics or anything...?

I honestly don't know, but that would certainly have me really freaked. I would be looking for a second opinion.

I would love a second opinion but I'm on Medicaid and there are no dentists for me to see...well there are some (thank goodness, really thank goodness for the dentists who volunteer or who will accept Medicaid) but they're all booked up months in advance because there just aren't enough of them.

Did the dentist tell you it was okay to wait 2 months for your next appointment? If he did not mention it, call your dentist and ask to speak to him about the timeline. If he said it's fine to wait, then you'll be okay, but you can call the office and ask to be put "on call" if they have a cancellation.

I just had 2 wisdom teeth extracted last Friday. I made myself a wreck with worry since I knew I had to have them out a year and a half ago (they were crooked and infected/needed fillings at the very least) and had a month to wait once I actually made the appointment. I swore up and down that I was going to cry and need the gas to calm myself down- I've had gum flap surgery and didn't even get the gas then.

The longest part of the procedure is waiting for the area to become numb. Both teeth were taken out and given 2 stitches each under 5 minutes (I was so numb that I thought the dentist was flossing my teeth for a moment until I realized that she was stitching the area - didn't feel a thing). The procedure was easier to go through than a filling to be honest with you. (I really dislike the sounds of drills and any sounds that I heard while they were being removed were not that bad/the dentist and assistant talked to me through the procedure so I barely heard anything else) The most annoying part is that I have to eat with my front teeth and have to rely on soft foods - pudding and soup only taste good for maybe 2 days I would totally go through another tooth extraction again if I had to.

I just had 15 teeth extracted 2 were wisdom and the fear is soooo much worse than procedure..i also agree i personally find extraction easier than filling! Shutters at drill

Okay, thanks! He didn't mention it he just said I had to wait because they were booked up but I will try to call and ask.

It has actually stopped hurting now, but it still feels "weird" I feel pressure and maybe a dull ache...trying not to worry about it.

I know right! If I could go today I would, I'm scared to go but sitting here just waiting is worse!

I had a dentist once who would let me wear headphones with music, they should really all do that because yeah that drill is so freaking, I keep thinking "what if I accidentally move? will it cut my face?" and stuff like that.
