I had an emergency root canal done today on that tooth near the front.. the canine one, I think? I call them vampire teeth.
Anyway, the day and a half before I got it done I was in excruciating pain. All over the right side of my jaw, really. I first thought it was my back molar (which is in bad shape too) but the dentist said it was this other tooth, which does hurt too I think. It's hard to tell which tooth hurts the most.

Tomorrow I go in to get it finished, but since right after the root canal I have been in so much intense pain... far more excruciating than before! Is this normal? I almost passed out from the pain, and T3's aren't working. This is a new dentist who I have never been to before. He said he wanted to fix all of my teeth instead of pulling them (like the previous two dentists wanted to do). He said that this tooth that he was doing the root canal on was infected and that's why it was hurting.
But he didn't give me antibiotics, and he didn't give me a prescription for pain pills (I have been using various things from other people... which can't be good). Is this normal? I'm not exactly sure what I should be getting.. ie pills, antibiotics, or even amount of pain? I've been looking it all up online (I have been up all night with intense pain)
Can someone tell me if this is normal, and if I should stay with this dentist? He knows I have a huge fear of dentists, and pain, and said that I have nothing to worry about. But right now, I am very worried, and very much hurting. :(

I'm no expert, but I don't think that much pain is ever normal.

You should definetly get ahold of your dentist asap...

For one taking other peeps meds is never good he should give you something for the pain.

Also when I commented to my dentist on how smoothly my root canal went he told me thats how they normally go and the ones you constantly hear about are the ones with an infection... He said if I had an infection he wouldn't even work on the tooth till it was cleared up..

Regardless he had me on antibotics to prevent any infection from occuring... Your dentist should defintely give you something for the infection and or pain

I don't think severe pain is normal after a root canal. I had severe pain after a crown....so the next day I went in for a root canal and the pain was completely gone. A root canal takes out the roots so you shouldn't be able to feel anything in that tooth again.

I'm no expert but my guess is 1) He didn't get all the roots out or 2) It was infected to begin with and antibiotics is the only thing to help that.

Good luck...mouth pain is the worst. :-[

Definitely have it rechecked by someone. Sometimes the dentist may not expect it to ache afterwards especially in a straightforward situation so they should be informed about what's happening.
