Hi all! This forum has been such a godsend throughout my wisdom teeth extraction and recovery! Things have been going pretty well. I'm day 13 post extraction. Top two were completely uncomplicated and painless. Bottom left was a bit more involved. Impacted and jaw bone needed to be drilled. Left a huge hole naturally as well as painful for about 12 days. The past day or two the pain and achy jaw has finally begun to subside. The site has has had "white stuff" growing every day. I read this is a good sign and healing is underway.

Today, after rinsing, I am certain the blood clot came out. And it was big! The hole left behind still had the white stuff, but now every time I look at it, more and more white stuff is gone ☹️. I'm freaking out because I got used to it looking a certain way. And the hole is definitely not closed up. Still there and still gaping.

Does this sound like normal healing or did I lose my blood clot too soon? Should I be concerned? No pain as of yet.

Thank you so so much in advance for any help you can offer :-)

Does it hurt?

Did you feel anything as it fell off?

Didn't feel anything when it came out. At the moment, the only pain is a dull kind of ache at the bottom of my jaw. No pain at the site whatsoever and I'm drinking cold water

I just looked for the millionth time lol and there is some stuff in the hole. Id be hard pressed to give it color. Kind of gray yellow Gross pretty much lol.

It’s most likely granulation tissue or food. Either way, it’s fine. Food will work it’s way out and granulation tissue is a normal part of healing, the hole will fill in over time. Unless you’re in a lot of pain, the best thing to do is leave it alone and follow your aftercare instructions.

Thank you!!! I started this thread with the hopes of reading something just like that! You saved me a lot of worry and I appreciate it :-)

Since you didn’t feel anything, my guess is that are fine.

I say this because the same thing happened to me.

Thanks for the feedback Dg. I guess the clot has to come out at some point. It's just jarring to see.

I found my white/grayish stuff really revolting.

I think you you should be okay.

Keep us posted!

Wait, the clot eventually comes out regardless?? I have not read that anywhere. (I am 11 days post extraction and terrified of dry socket)

I thought the insides of the holes were basically healed at this point and now it’s just a matter of getting rid of the holes?

I'm not sure. I guess my thoughts were there's a clot and it's replaced with healthy tissue so the clot has to go somewhere? If it comes out after some time it's okay. If it comes out within 3 days or so before healthy tissue forms that's then it's a problem. I could be completely wrong and I feel you on being totally paranoid!! I will say my clot came out hours ago and I feel fine! Even swished some cold water over the site and didn't feel a thing. I'm assuming this is a natural step in healing.

That’s so completely terrifying to me, but it tells me more information. I’m basically obsessed with mine. I literally google like all day because I’m so worried something is going to go wrong.

Aww step I'm sorry to hear that. I have health anxiety so believe me I know exactly what you mean. The non stop googling , looking for comfort but then finding something terrifying.

I would say, after 11 full days of healing, you are doing great. At this point you should be healed enough that there is enough new tissue that dry socket isn't a concern. I spent plenty of time the first few days after mine reading countless comments from doctors on forums just like this who have said the dry socket danger zone is first 72 hours.

Hang in there and stay off Google! I know, easier said then done lol. Trying getting lost in a good book or Netflix series ;)
