I don’t even know how to begin this post, I feel like I have not been able to enjoy my life because I am constantly worrying about the next thing that is going to go wrong with my teeth. Although I have put in a great deal of time effort and money into my mouth and right now I dont have any cavities and there isn’t a “problem” per say, I am so traumatized and have such PTSD all I think about is the next thing that will likely happen. I have a lot of restorations, crown on 13 that’s about 12 years old, implant on 14, bridge on the other side, and each thing has traumatized me in its own special way. I have dreams about my bridge breaking and/or coming out every couple of nights because it has come out before due to a poor fit in the beginning, so now I constantly am worried every time I eat that it is going to rip out. having to have 14 pulled and deal with a missing tooth and implant process-traumatizing - the crown on my implant came off once and had to be recemented so now I am traumatized from that and barely chew on that side. I can never relax because I am constantly waiting for the other shoe to drop. My dental issues are the very core and bane of my anxiety issues. I am seriously considering hypnosis at this point because talk therapy and EMDR have done nothing.
Fast forward to tooth 13- it has a crown on it. Before my implant was placed my dentist wanted to do a small filling on 13 on the back side to close a gap that would reduce food trappage when my implant crown was placed. Well a couple months ago that filling came out. And now the space is large. I want this crown redone anyway because the gum recession over the years has left me with an unsightly black line at the gum and I hate it. My dentist said this is a good opportunity to get in there and get the crown redone however my good friend who is a my hygeinest at this office says you never know what you will find when you remove a crown, and it makes me so worried that this tooth is not salvageable, even though the dentist poked around a little bit and said it doesn’t feel “sticky or tacky” and that there is likely tooth structure to work with. Sometimes I notice a smell from that area no matter how much I clean it and I am an absolute FREAK about my oral hygiene - water pik and floss 2x a day, brush 2-3x, tongue scraper, I do everything in my power to keep it clean but this slight smell has me thinking there is something going on under the crown and it won’t be able to be replaced and I’ll be right back in the same position needing another implant. I am also terrified that my breath stinks and I don’t realize it, I am constantly checking and trying to figure out if it does, it’s driving me absolutely nuts and I know this level of obsession is really unhealthy but I can’t help it. Tooth 13 is a noticeable area and I am terrified of missing that tooth. I am already dealing with extreme mental health issues and this will just add fuel to the fire. I feel hopeless like I’ll never get ahead of any of this.
