lost a tooth at 26 update and implant question

So the tooth was removed today. I thought I'd let everyone how it went. My mouth is all bloody and hurts but everything went ok. No complications and hope to keep it that way. Does anyone here have any experience with implants? (and yes I know, its like $4,000 per tooth but I will be able to afford it in a few years). Thank you everyone for your support. I was really really scared for today but I got through it and my boyfriend has been supportive too. This was all work on just one side. Wish me luck for the other! (appointment for fillings for the right side on the 12th. The reason I lost my current tooth was that the to fill a cavity the dentist ended up drilling into the nerve and I cant afford root canals at the moment). Thanks!

concerning your question on a Implants; I don't have experience of these.........Yet but in 3and a bit weeks I will be going for an implant consultation so I will be starting a journal on the whole implant journey.

I didn't notice in this thread or your other threads if you mentioned which tooth it was that you had extracted. Depending on which tooth you had extracted, and the overall health of the adjacent teeth on either side, you may have other options than an implant.

I have a 3 unit fixed bridge that I got in 2012 and I'm perfectly happy with it. What's done is they prepare the teeth on either side of the missing tooth by cutting / shaping them into posts for crowns. Then they make a single piece of metal/porcelain crown in the shape of all three teeth (including the missing one). The teeth on either side of the gap that were prepared for crowns support the prosthetic tooth that fills in the gap. When done correctly (especially if you wait until the extraction site is well healed) it's very hard for anyone to notice.

A fixed bridge can be cheaper, but the implants also have their own benefits. If you have poor overall dental health, or poor dental health in that area of your mouth, you might be better off with an implant. You'd be best served by having a sit-down consultation to talk about the pro's and con's of each option. There are many good implant and dental restoration specialists out there.

As far as your extraction goes, I'm sure you'll be fine. An extraction should only bother a person for a couple days, a week at most.
