So ive always been a baby when it came to the dentist. Slowly the fear has been fading. I got a deep clean done and gotten cavities filled, both of which I was terrified of. They were a breeze. Now my biggest fear has come. I still need a root canal but that doesnt scare me like these extractions do, and tomorrow morning is the big day.

5 baby teeth need to pulled out that ive had. And my 2 lower wisdom teeth need to be removed. Im not sure how many teeth are supposed to be on each time but im fairly confident that BOTH of the wisdom teeth and erupted and are mostly in. They are impacted ive been told. Im worried cuz thats alot of teeth at once.

Im FREAKED out. They said they would put me to sleep. That scares me more then the after affects since i have anxiety. I kinda dont wanna be put out. I doubt i can take Xanax before i go also. Im scared of how im gunna act when i wake up and before they put me out. Im scared of throwing up from the pain meds. Im scared of the pain. UGH .. Some help would be great. Thank you.

Being put to sleep was the only way I could go. I went under GA and literally woke up when it was all over.

The thinking about it beforehand is WAY WAY worse than the reality when you are there

Way to go! You made it through and it wasn't as bad as you thought. Keep us posted as you recover. A lot of us here have had extractions can commiserate or celebrate. Thanks for checking in. Here's a halo and applause: [smiley=angelic.gif] [smiley=jumping.gif]

lol what are you talking about. I didnt post anything like that.

Anyways. I chickened out and didnt end up going. I postponed it last minute. I feel sick about it right now and legit feel like a failure. Feel like a loser that couldnt just do what had to be done. My next appointment is in 2 weeks and I promised myself and them I WILL BE THERE.

I'm so sorry. I must have seen one of the responses & didn't doublecheck. Good luck with your appointment.

Don't feel like a failure - it just wasn't the right time

Well extractions is not as bad as it sounds I had 1 wisdom tooth removed and 2 regular teeth removed. 2 of the 3 was a breeze. one was a bad job and just fueled my fears even more. one thing i know is i hate sedation. i had it once and i rather be fully awake for it.

Hi italiannyc17

I had 13 teeth removed, including 4 wisdom teeth, under a GA, it was the only way they would get me in there. I too was worried about being sick after but asked them for an anti-sickness injection.

I won't bore you with the details as they are all on my thread but in a nut shell ........ I wish I had had it done years ago. Like all phobics I had worked it all out in my head, all the horrors, the pain, the sickness - I couldn't have been more wrong! I was asleep in seconds, other than a aching jaw I had NO pain and wasn't sick, didn't even feel sick.

The relief after was simply amazing, wish I could bottle the feeling and send it to you to try ....... I still can't believe how the fear had ruled my life for over 30 years and how I had spent years feeding the phobia monster ::)

In two weeks time there is a chance for you to change you life ....... and it will ;)
