I can survive any dentist procedure accept Shots, Rubber Dams, and MOLDS. Do any of you have any Tips on how to get through the annoying 4 minutes of mold taking? I am having the upper and bottoms done tonight, and despite XANAX, the act of it, still makes me Hyperventilate. I heard one of you mention to lift your legs a few inches off the chair, any other good tips? Thanks.

The only thing that helped me with it was to concentrate on breathing through my nose. I wasn't doing that at first and thought I was going to gag. The dentist also helped by talking to me softly and reassuring me I was doing a great job.

I can relate. Molds used to frighten the wits out of me. As Olivacs mentioned, it's helpful to breathe through your nose. It's also OK to allow yourself to drool. Your dentist won't be put off by a bit of saliva. I used to try to swallow and that made things worse.

Perhaps the best tip, though, is to communicate your fear to your dentist. Olivacs mentioned that her dentist reassured her throughout the process. The same thing was helpful to me. However, if you don't let the dentist know that you're a bit freaked by the whole thing, he or she won't know that you need that kind of reassurance.

You'll be fine. Soon those molds will be an ancient memory.

Well I am back...and thanks for the tips, I will definetely use those next time. :) My nose is horrible I have a deveated septum, and am a total mouth breather, and yes, I have a bad habit of swallowing! I found that lifting my legs up off the chair a few inches helps alot, I don't know why!! But the worst part of the molds isn't even those darn trays, but the "Caulking" Like tube they use on all of your bottom teeth, and then you have to close your mouth together. It's a horrible feeling! Then he used some red goop, and once they used a half mold, just to take the right side of my crown. That was a bit more tolerable. But thankfully I have 3 weeks to relax before my next appointment. My dentist is really nice and calm, and the nurses are wonderful, so I don't feel so bad when I temporarily freak out. She didn't fill up the molds really full either, and promised not to make me choke. It's helpful at least. Thanks guys!
HUGS!
