Hi!

First of all, you are in the right place for support. Have a look through the archives (do a search on extractions) to see how other people haved coped.

What is troubling you most....? Maybe you could tell us what your worst fears are and we can help.

Keep staying positive - you are getting your teeth out for the right reasons. And just think afterwards - no more dentists, or drills, or extractions or anything. EVER. Just remember, you will not feel a single thing as you will be completely numb. Have you thought about sedation (I go ON and ON about it - it's brilliant )

A friend of mine had a complete set of dentures fitted a wee while ago, and she looks absolutely fabulous. Like a new woman! She is not phobic...but she wasn't looking forward to it, but she said it was all over and done with quickly and the worst thing about it was the mild discomfort afterward - purely cos the dentures rubbed her sore gums for a day or two. She carefully rinsed with salt water (ask your dentist if this is ok) and wore her dentures 24/7, only taking them out to clean them, and was completely recovered soon after.

Well, I am not a dentist, or a nurse - but I do know that dental pain is MORE than manageable nowadays - especially when it is the pain of bruised and sore gums from extractions (rather than the pain of abcesses or nerve decay.)

I had three teeth extracted, and implants put in a couple of years ago. I felt like I had been hit in the face for a week - but I took the prescribed doses of 500mg paracetamol and 200mg ibuprofen (together) every four hours, and it was more than cope-able. You can also get cocodamol, and lysine now in the paracetamol, which makes it even more effective. Your dentist will advise you pain relief - and also on avoiding infection so DON'T smoke and be careful with hygiene after. Believe me...when I say don't smoke, I mean it....because I did once after an extraction, and I got dry socket. That is an infection and it is Ouch. If you look after your gums and keep your dentures in as advised by the dentist...you won't have any problems.

Just keep thinking about your beautiful NEW TEETH!

Honestly....read it again. Didn't work for me the first time ten years ago, but worked for me the second time - don't know why, but if you WANT to stop it suddenly makes sense, and changes your mindset. I didn't want to stop first time I read Easyway..I sort of read it cos I felt I had to - but in my head I really wanted to keep smoking. Then I was diagnosed with a heart condition...and I thought...I WANT to stop now. And I did!

Anyway...whatever you do, I wish you the best with your teeth and your smoking, and be sure to post some pics of your gorgeous smile

I totally understand how you feel, I am in the process of having all my teeth out, not that I've many left anyway. I had my tops out in Devember and will be having the bottoms out soon, I wasn't brave enough to have them all done at once, too much of a coward.

I can tell you in all honesty getting used to dentures is no where near as bad as we imagine it's going to be. I've adjusted really quickly and am much more confident in myself.

I too smoke, I wore patches for about ten days after having teeth out before giving in to temptation!! I have a drawer full of patches and intend to try again before having my bottom teeth out, I also have the book which I may, like you, dig out & read. My advice to you would be to take it a step at a time and not put too many pressures on yourself. Put the patches on next week and try not to smoke for a week or so but don't think you cant ever smoke again, the strain will be too much. If you do find yourself smoking after a while you can always try again when you feel ready.

We all know smokings not good for us and I'm sure you will stop when you're ready, having your teeth out is a big thing in itself so put smoking on the back burner and adress it at a time when you feel able.

Hi I just want to say good luck for Saturday. I know how you feel about the worrying it's driving me daft at the moment. I haven't been sleeping to well keep dreaming about the whole procedure. For me it will all be over with tomorrow. I'm not having a full Denture like yourself i'm having five teeth out and a lower Partial Denture fitted. I too worry about the pain afterwards but I have stocked up on pain killers. Going to take them before the injection wears off so hopefully I should be ok.

The Guys on here are great if you have any questions they are always happy to answer them the best they can.

Just think love this time next week it will all be over with and you will have a lovely new smile.

Had laugh tryin them 4 size
Only gagged abt with 4 sets in mouth
So reckon denture will b a brezze (joke)

Glad you got your new teeth least you can see what they look like. I didnt see mine till he had taken the teeth out. Then my top tooth kept catching one of the teeth on the Denture so he had to cut it down. I now have a designer chip in my Denture.

I have to go back in a few months for a new Denture so this one is only for a few months till my gum as healed.

Try not to worry to much about the pain afterwards just keep on top of the pain killers and you will be fine. I only have a bit and it tends to mostly be when i'm eating and for a while afterwards. Sometimes when I talk too but its not that bad I can cope with it and i hate pain believe me.

Hi love try not to worry to much. Are your teeth loose? If they are they will come out very easy.
My Dad had all his out years ago and full Dentures he said he had no pain. But his teeth he said were very loose.

I was told to take Ibuprofen 3 times a day and pain killers 4. What I did was take the pain killer then an hour after take the Ibuprofen. This worked for me.

Can't really talk 2 family think there bored of my moaning lol

Know it sounds silly but not sure if teeth r loose
Mouths bn like warzone since wisdom teeth where removed 15 yrs ago
Got used 2 pain right up until nov last yr
Went 2 local dentist
Rubbish toke no notice off me+fears
Wanted 2 deep clean teeth but I know it was more wrong it's my mouth
Good friend recommend dentist few miles away
The mans a saint
After ild cried+jabbered like fool 4 10mins he said sit let me look no tools or anything
It was hardest thing I've ever done ever
Touched every tooth with gentle finger
+said whot I know in my heart already
All out
Would hav had them done in clinic the nxt wk but can't cope with mild knock out
Waited this long 4 hospital 2 b put unde ga

After the worst nite ever

Got 2 hav more x rays nxt wk then back 2 see consultant when I'm given a date 4 op
Had all pre op test done
Nurse was like ur blood pressure is up
I laughed said wouldn't yours b raised if u were in my shoes!!!
Gutted that I've got 2 still wait after tie-in myself in knots
Doc said it major op but I was strong+said I'm must hav this done
Need 2 b healthy can't go on with this
gums r never going 2 better just worse
Can't hav loads of work+still lose teeth later down
line
