I am a UK resident.
Over the years I have had quite a bit of dental treatment, and other than the odd twinge, I have never had any pain during fillings and the odd extraction.
I have been with my present practice for two years, and am on my second dentist because of the pain I had with the first one during fillings. Last week I had a filling and went through absolutely hell with 30 minutes of absolutely agonising pain. At one point the dentist was squirting the 'number' directly onto the tooth being filled.
Yesterday I had a tooth extracted and nearly passed out with the pain. I felt everything even though I could not feel him pressing the gum as a test.
What on earth has happened? I am positive the dentist thought I was acting like a little kid (I am nearly 70). He said that it could be caused by the painkillers I am on, which are high doses of Tramadol and Gabapentin. I also am a diabetic.
Can anyone help me as I am dreading having any further dental treatment.

. Must have been quite a shock. I have never heard of prescription medication being the cause, I think that was just a lame excuse.
