random dull pain after composite filling

On 8/16 I had 3 composite fillings done on the 3 teeth far back, top left (wisdom tooth not included, it is not yet erupted). The procedure went surprisingly well, no pain during, and a growing confidence in new dentist (will get into back story later but had been 10+ yrs since last visit).

The 5-6 days after I felt nothing and was happy & validated in my decision to finally see a dentist and get everything taken care of. Then approx 1 week after the fillings, I noticed a very dull & random pain that would come and go from the middle tooth. The pain in probably a 1-2 out of 10 - hardly pain at all, more like a awareness of the tooth. I have not even had a need to take and meds.

I am soooo worried though. My dentist mentioned that the tooth in the back was the worst off and may need a root canal - but that tooth feels perfectly fine. I have another appointment on 9/16 (for 2 more fillings on the bottom right) - should I call before that and explain the pain/feeling I am getting? I am so upset that everything was going so well. Does this sound like a tooth just getting used to a filling? I have read that the nerve needs time to settle down. Why would it be a week later and not immediately that I would feel this way? And no, there is no pain/sensitivity to hot, cold or pressure. I do believe that the filling is high, everything feels perfectly natural to me. The worry is worse than the pain.

It would be sensible to have the bite checked first, if it was a little bit out then that would explain why it's taken a few days to show up.

Hi to the forum.

It could be that the tooth needs to settle but I would ring the dentist and mention what is happening and see if they feel they need to see you before your appointment. Sometimes teeth can rebel a bit when they have been disturbed, and the pain doesn't seem bad. Does the tooth hurt with cold or hot drinks or food. If id does you may have a leak or small crack so it would be best to ring the dentist straight away. Either way nothing drastic will happen to your teeth in the next couple of weeks, so if you did leave it it wouldn't matter.

thank you both for such a quick reply. I will call the dentist Tuesday (Monday holiday here) and speak with him. I was a bit nervous to do so because I hate to be a bothersome new patient. Will let you know how it goes.

Just got back from the dentist, they were amazing & got me same day for my issue. The dentist drilled down both the top filling I mentioned & a bottom filling that was directly opposite this one (that I had about 2 weeks prior to the top one), explained that they were hitting each other just enough to give me the dull pain I was feeling. Double checked it twice with carbon paper, it took about 5 minutes and there was no pain at all, barely felt a thing. Also validated my appt by letting me know it was a necessary adjustment.
