When i wake up in the Mornings,i always have a really dry mouth. I find it hard to swallow coz it's so dry.
Also have this brown gunk on some Teeth :-/

I'm not worried about it,but was wondering whether it's normal ?

I know i sleep with my mouth open (find hard breathing through nose) - could that be the reason ?

It's normal for somebody who mouth breathes to wake up with a very dry mouth. Your brain tends to switch down saliva production when you're asleep anyway (probably to prevent you from drowning :-)) and this will make things worse.

I suppose your tonsils and adenoids are OK? They could contribute to the blocked up feeling...

Tonsils are fine. Never had a sore Throat. Where are my Adenoids ? :-/
Also have no sense of smell - dunno if that has anything to do with nose always being blocked

i cant really say if its normal BUT Boots ( im assuming you live in the UK) has the expert range ( we all know that tho) but they have like toothpaste, mouth wash, and breath freshener spray stuff all made for people with dry mouth.......might be helpful, haven't tried it tho

Thanks for that saffy :) Just isn't very nice waking up and being unable to swallow !
Also horrid having brown gunk on my front teeth !

I also have no sense of smell (never have) - dunno if that's why i can't breath through my nose ? :-/

Always welcome its quite hard to find in the shop tho coz they scatter it everwhere but keep looking coz it is there usually on the bottom shelf ( because its cheaper and the put the branded more expensive stuff at eye view.....sneaky!) anyways hope it works ! XX

Dr Scaredstiff to the rescue: I only really know because of my great age. Adenoids are back of the nose somewhere and in the old days when you had tonsils out, you automatically had adenoids too. Don't know if removal of both still goes hand in hand. If you're dry in the mornings when you wake, keep water by the bedside and immediately on waking take a drink.

Still doesn't explain why, i have brown gunk on my front teeth every morning :-/

Also have a little brownish dribble on my Pillow every morning !

It could be just dried saliva mixed with a little blood. I wonder if the gums being dry out might be slightly imflammed making them more prone to slight bleeding. That would leave some brownish spots.

Do you have Breatheright strips in the UK? You could try them to see if they help.

Nasal polyps or a deviated septum may also interfere with normal nose breathing. For those into useless trivia, Cameron Diaz not too long ago had surgery to correct a deviated septum.

You could try those nose strips to see if they work. Some athletes use them in marathons to increase the amount of air they can breathe in.

My main concern about dry mouth breathers is that they tend to be susceptible to rampant decay. I would recommend brushing with a high fluoride toothpaste like Colgate Prevident 5000 and using a fluoride rinse before bedtime.

im the same issy, have never been able to breath through my nose. have to sleep with my mouth open . i use duraphat toothpaste
