red area on cheek

I have a red area next to my lower wisdom tooth. I think the tooth is rubbing on the cheek. I don't want it removed as it is other wise ok. Would having the tooth filed down reduce rubbing, it has no filings?

it might do; but if the tooth and cheek are not sore then I would leave it be.

Thanks for the reply. The red area is sore at the moment and gets more sore when I eat and drink anything hot. I was hoping that by filing the tooth it would help the red area to disappear completely. It usually disappears after a while anyway but it's been more painful than ever this time.

HI snapper, if the cheek is sore then something might have to be done.
You could try and file the tooth so that it is less sharp, but this might not work. Its work a try if your dentist thinks its possible and will help.

Hello, thanks for your reply. I was thinking that maybe its burning mouth syndrome but would that only be in one area of the mouth. The area also has white patches surrounding the red area ad there feels like a lump. I'll have to find a dentist that I feel comfortable with or more like feels comfortable with me to get it checked.

Hi Snapper, burning mouth syndrome is a completely different kettle of fish compared to what I was mentioning before. If your concerned it might be this then you should consult your dentist. I was describing a situation whereby a sharp tooth rubs against your cheek.
