Hi :) I m 24 yers old and I have very bad teeth. I'm going to remove all my teeth next week. Will I be able to live without dentures and implants? Will I be able to learn to eat and speak without teeth? I wonder what I will look like, unfortunately, apart from photo montages of the movie stars, I have not found any photo of people without teeth on the internet.

Hi MaryStokosa. I do not have the answer to this as I do not know anyone who lives without teeth, but the first question on my mind is why wouldn't you get dentures? I can't imagine any dentist agreeing to remove all your teeth without suggesting a replacement...

Hi Mary,

I don’t know anyone so young as you who does not have teeth and frankly I think it is not possible. First of all: it will have severe consequences on your health because what you will be able to eat will not be enough for your body. Secondly, it will really reduce your ability to contact people.
On the other hand: you can have the dentures later on.
May I ask: is the financial aspect the dominant consideration or is it something else?

I think that if the option is there, few people would choose not to have some form of replacement for their teeth. The only exception I can think of is possibly a very elderly person who struggles with fiddly movements - but even then I can remember my great-gran having a nurse help her put in and take out her dentures when she was 90 and too arthritic to do it herself. My hunch is that once you have had the teeth extracted you will probably want to think about dentures or implants down the line.

my teeth are in very bad condition (I suffer from Lyme disease and have to take large doses of antibiotics ) and my dentist decided that it would be best to remove them. I had partial dentures before but I could not put them on. I am an allergic person, I have retching due to dentures in my mouth. My dentist said that once she met a woman who removed all teeth and said she live without a dentures.

Marystokosa,

I"m so sorry to hear of your suffering from Lyme diseses I had a close friend with this and it is just very very hard. and then to have the allergies with the dentures. I don't know what to say really but that I hope you can find a solution to be able to help in the best way possible.

Sorry to read that. I still can‘t believe a dentist supports you in the decision not to get teeth. I am not a dentist and do not know much about what is possible, but dentistry had come auch a long way that I hardly can imagine there wouldn’t be any possibility for you to get teeth in a way tolerable for you. As far as I know not having teeth would bring some further consequences such a bone loss, maybe tmj problems etc. (just guessing here again, not a dentist). I also think there is a difference between being old and having no teeth and being your age and having none. How do you feel about this whole idea?

I found a woman on the internet who has been living without dentures for several years. she says that she is comfortable in this situation. She learned to eat with only gums. He can eat almost any type of food. it's very good news for me. Her smile looks a bit strange but I will probably get used to it

I know someone with no teeth and that is because her own teeth could not be saved and she cannot afford dentures at the moment. Once she can afford dentures she will get some

Totally agree with your assessment Dr Daniel. This is an incredibly sad situation for such a young lady, in every possible way....health-wise, self image wise and of course socially. Hope this is fully addressed by a dentist.

Sorry to hear about all of the health issues on top of needing to have teeth removed. I didn't see this mentioned yet but have you considered getting a second opinion, maybe from a specialist like a prosthodontist?
