Root canal today

I've spent the last 3 weeks wishing for this day to come and now that its here, I'm nervous! I've had 2 root canals before so I know what to expect. They were painless procedures and I had no discomfort afterwards. I guess the only difference is that the 2 I had were emergency appointments done right then and there. I had no time to think about it. Now for this tooth I'm thinking about it! Thinking about what might go wrong. The infection at the root was pretty big. Did the antibiotics clear it? Will I for some reason not be able to get numb? Will something be missed and I'll be left in dying pain? When the crown is removed will the tooth be too far gone and have to be pulled? Is there even enough tooth there since it had been filed down to place a crown?

The one good thing is that the tooth itself never totally hurt despite the large infection. I could bite on it. It wasnt sensitive to hot or cold and I can tap it and not have pain. I've only had headaches on that side and an occasional twinge and some sinus pain on that side.

I'm just hoping it all goes well!

glad you have had a good experience with root canal treatment in your past, however I get how the waiting time allows you to get all kinds of fears and questions and worries.. I would say worrying before a visit is what dental fear is about! Your fears and questions are valid and I can only encourage you to put it all down to a piece of paper and use it as a foundation for a chat with your dentist before you start. Your dental team should be happy to talk you through the things that worry you and reassure you before you begin and it will allow them to look after you better. My favorite part about asking questions: it gives you time to arrive, calm down and sort your thoughts before you start the procedure.

Thank you both for the good luck! The dentist addressed most of my fears without me even asking. The procedure went smoothly and painlessly. I didnt even feel the numbing needle! The dentist drilled through my crown instead of remove it. The tooth was totally dead. Now the numbness has worn off and I have no discomfort. I hope it stays that way! I have to remember these good outcomes instead of freak myself out should I ever need another root canal.
