Root Canal tooth and a bit of pain?

Hiya, I had a root canal done on the 15th of this month, I had a bit of pain/sensitivity but a few pain kilers would make it ease, now the question is should it still be a bit sensitive and achey? I am not sure if its normal to have a dull pain underneath it for a while, surely it should have eased by now? I dont really want to complain about it to the dentist so if its normal I will just wait for it to calm down before I go mentioning it

Also forgot to mention that I also keep getting a bad taste in my mouth ever since, I know it wasnt there before so could it be some kind of infection perhaps?

A week isn't that long for it to settle down in, if it's improving then I wouldn't worry too much. As for the bad taste, what kind of filling was put in after the root canal, some of them taste pretty foul?

Thanks Gordon, as for the filling, I have absolutely no idea what kind it is! A friend of mine thinks it only looks like a temp one but surely he would have mentioned that after he had finished?

Was it your general dentist that did the root canal or a specialist endo dude? The latter would be most likely to put a temp filling in.

I don't suppose he made some off hand remark like "Come back next month for a permanent filling in that sucker" or somesuch?

It was the dentist who put the filling in, the thing is I had a whole tooth there but now it looks like I have no tooth as he has taken it down to gum level and filled it there? Is that normal? I do have to go back for more treatment on the 5th but he didnt mention that tooth.

Like a lot of these things, it's a lot easier to see what's going on than for you to describe it. It sounds like the tooth has been partly prepared for a crown, which you'll presumably be getting in the near future.

I can imagine its difficult with all these questions so I appreciate the time you took to answer them! it would seem you were right though, he just prepped the tooth for a crown, thankyou
