My dentist told me with in the last year he would have to surgically(cut) my tooth out of my mouth because i had a root canal done prior. Half of my tooth is broke to the gum while the other part is not. Ive had a tooth like this before pulled ( broke down, not previous root canal) but as far as i knew he didnt have to cut my gums open how ever i had t o have a couple stitches. He was able to pull my tooth. Does he have to cut this molar out? Im absolutely terrified. Im having severe anxiety over needing to go to the dentist and scared of an infection spreading since its been so long since ive needed it pulled ( roughly a year) . But scared of during and after procedure. I have multiple littles but my bf said hed take off work. And that says alot cause he doesnt ever....Please help. I have EDS and POTS. So my hearts going to be pounding when i get this done. I would take a xanax but I haven't took it in over a year and even a .5 makes me go pass out. And im not sure i can do that in the dentist chair. Lol. I want my man with me but then again idt they allow that and i feel like thats also a vulnerable moment. What do i do?

It's honestly not as bad as it sounds. (Yes, I've had it done myself). It takes a bit longer than a simple extraction but from the patient's side, there's a bit of pushing, a bit of drilling (usually less than for a filling) and that's about it. It isn't any more painful than a regular extraction, it's probably a bit less physical than removing an entire tooth, you are slicing the tooth into small sections so the amount you're removing in one go is a fair bit smaller...

You've had stitches before, so you know (I hope) that's not too bad. They are annoying in your mouth afterwards though, feels like you've got a hair stuck in your teeth
:(

I can't tell if this is essential to have done or not without seeing you, but the dentist is probably giving you a worst case scenario, the tooth might pop out without needing to go down the surgical route.

Healing afterwards is the same or occasionally slightly quicker than after a regular extraction, less chance of a dry socket since the hole is sutured closed so you're not totally reliant on the blood clot.
Follow the post-extraction advice your dentist gives you or have a look on here: https://www.dentalfearcentral.org/faq/healing/

If having your partner in during the treatment makes you feel better then I'd never object to it in my practice, I doubt if other dentists would feel differently.
