Scared of medicine...anyone else?

I hate going to the dentist, as we all do lol. I'm terrified of it. My b/p reaches 155/105 when i go!!

I've had anxiety/panic disorder for the past 8 years, and I want to get over it! I have 2 cavities and a deep cleaning I need done and they are going to numb me for. I hate that numbing shot!

I have a serious phobia of medicine, I do not want to take it because I'm scared of how it will make me feel. And in order to go to the dentist I will be doing IV sedation. Please tell me this is the right choice and I'm not going to die!

Hey bud. You won't die with IV sedation. First off, they will attach an EKG to your chest and monitor your vitals throughout the procedure. In case just the sound of having an EKG is worrying, don't. It is a simple computer with wires coming out of them. At the ends of those wires are electrodes which are attached to sticky pads. They place the sticky pads on your upper torso in various areas and it simply reads your heartbeats. Nothing to worry about with pain there. Only thing that hurts with those is when they take the stickies off your skin...that sucks. Other than that, if you can handle an IV getting put in, the next thing you will notice is yourself waking up in a chair other than the one you sat down in. Then the only reason you have to worry about dying from is the inevitable heart attack from seeing how much the IV sedation costs! For someone with extreme dental phobia, the IV sedation is well worth it.
