Sensitivity after crown prep

Hello,
I had a crown prep done on an upper back molar (2) two weeks ago. For the first week everything felt fine other than I believe I was clenching my jaw while sleeping so tried to sleep elevated.
The last week all of my teeth are sensitive to cold. Whenever I eat they get sore. My gums around that tooth are red and the tooth next to it has some red gums by it.

The tooth didn’t have a root canal on it. My dentist said it was becoming structurally weak and was afraid it was chip like my other top molar did, which resulted in extraction.

Monday is my permanent crown placement. They said they won’t numb me for it because I need to make sure my bite is good. My allergies are bad as well so I know that can effect my teeth.
I have been taking ibuprofen a couple of times a day to keep the pain down.

I know it’s hard to tell without an exam, but does this pain and sensitivity lean more towards needing a root canal?

The dentist looked at it today and said the type of sensitivity I was having was because some of the adhesive was still attached to my gum and the back of my tooth.

She said with it being a live tooth it is Normal for there to be extra sensitivity. They didn’t numb me and started to take the temporary off. That was extremely painful so they numbed me up to remove it and place the new one.

They had to adjust my permanent a little bit for my bite to be good. They will follow up tomorrow with me to make sure it’s not painful when eating.
