So just getting this off my chest

My experience has shown that the anticipation is the worst part.

But you are on the right track with an aggressive cleaning routine with a hygienist. I also go 4 times a year and actually look forward to in now. Mine is such a sweetheart and always puts me at ease. Plus, each appointment is only about 20 minutes for the cleanings and when I walk out I know I'm in great shape hygiene wise anyway.

Thanks BobRob.

Been quiet past few days as things have settled down a bit and the pains have mostly subsided for now. Got a new sore developing up in my upper right but seems to be more on the cheek side of the mouth so hopefully just a canker/ulcer will be keeping an eye on it though ;)

Havent cancelled the RCT yet but will probably do so next week as that tooth now seems to be fine again after using Sensodyne for past 4 days, perhaps its just masking it though either way much relieved.

Setup payments for the "private" dentist/Hygienist and just counting the days now, odd I'm actually looking forward to it and wish it would come quicker even though I know the first appointment is going to be hideous (measuring all the pockets etc)

So as luck has it got a call last night as Hygienist had a cancellation. So that was today at 12:30.

Made to feel very relaxed and non judgemental, almost felt like was having Tea with my mother (strange analogy but did feel very relaxed), went through my current oral routine which she was very happy with and told me to continue with it.

Then came the fun, my god did they go at cleaning my mouth out! Lots of tartar and some pockets that are in the bad zone (5-7mm) but she'll be doing proper measurements at the next appointment which is still as planned at end of month.

The sore at the back she couldnt really see, but did find lots of tartar under that gum so it's possible was that causing me the issue.

Showed me which brushes to now use (just from her cleaning I can now get the next size in) and sent me on my way.

Just necked couple of Ibuprofen because my god does it feel like my mouth has just eaten glass!

One things certain, I've found my dental practice really happy with this place.

So today marks a week since I went to see the Hygienist.

Anyone in 2 minds about going to see one.... Book an appointment and go! Its been the best thing I could have done. Since going all the discomfort I was having has gone and my gum inflammation has reduced considerably to the point I've gone up 2 interdental brush sizes since last Wednesday. I havent taken an ibuprofen since Friday and overall feeling positive.

Still think I've a long road ahead to get these pockets down but with time/care I'll be on my way.

So not been a great two days since my last post. I can "feel" the gaps now in my teeth and some of the teeth have that loose feeling (assuming it's just due to the gums healing and thus reducing in size) which means I keep feeling it with my tongue (it's hard to resist but am doing my best)

Got niggles in my teeth that are annoying me but no real pain and one of them I've started to feel a sensitivity with warm and cold water.

Its probably all in my head, I've got a trip with work tommorow which means am flying to elsewhere in Europe so perhaps mentally that's just causing me to dwell on matters.

Am tired aswell which probably doesn't help.

So work sent me on that trip and thus have been "distracted" from any issues with my mouth which has done wonders to be fair. Kept up orally with everything and had my 2nd appointment with the Hygienist moments ago.

My god did she go to town on me... been done a "great" job in her own words orally and she is very happy with my current programme so I am to keep it up as things are looking great in there. The whole appointment was basically spent digging out the old calculus which apparently was being "Unusually Difficult" to remove in her own words, she even went up a tip size to remove it in the end. I can definately feel she's been busy in there today that's a fact and think I'm going to feel sore for a few days but it's all good in the long run.

Sadly she wants me to go back in again 4-6 weeks time to keep on removing the more difficult stuff so thats a little discorncerning but anyways.

Put some super fluoride stuff or something onto the senstive area aswell and said it may help with that so lets hope so anyway.

So it's been a week now.

Nothing new to report really. Still get some sentivity somedays and others not so it's probably due to the gum recession.

This sadly is the part I'm really noticing now, using the tepe brushes am now pretty much Green/Purple only now so in the space of what 2 months have gone up 3-4 brush sizes, scary as it just shows how much the gums were damaged/inflammed. I'm still fearful I'm going to lose teeth at this point but on the postive front I can see my gums improving which can only be a good thing.

Time will tell I guess. Not got an appointment yet for the Hygienist as they are still soooo busy.

Well its been a month so figured I'd give an update.

Got a cancellation in the end from the Hygienist so they saw me earlier than planned (about 3 weeks ago now) and after a 3rd clean up she took measurements of all my pockets, fronts were all fine 0-2's etc, but the backs are a mess and were mostly 4's with the occasion 5 and a really bad couple that were 7 & 8 :S

Anyways they've given me the come back in 3 months and keep up the routine so all is good there.

Sadly though and am unsure if is a side effect of all the fillings etc or something else entirely but am getting issues with my right side daily now that starts of as a minor niggle in the morning and turns into a small ache by the evening, its not tooth related I think and I have this wierd sensation of just wanting to push my teeth out my mouth with my tongue all the time. Went to the dentist yesterday and she looked all around the mouth checking everything and cant physically see anything wrong with it. She doesnt believe is anything TMJ related either (but I'm still not convinced) and that I'll just have to carry on with it and see what happens over the next month or so and then they'll xray again in July, she thinks it's all part of the mouth healing process and is thus short term. Even Ibuprofen etc doesnt make it go away which is the thing that bugs me the most about it. Oh well at least the gums are improving (and my teeth are fine and dandy she said).

Wow has it really been 3 months since my last post....

Anyways still kicking about here, got a double dentist check up and Hygienist visit ahead on Monday to look forward too. Gums have stopped bleeding nowadays apart from when I catch it with an interdental brush etc on occasion but otherwise they seen ok.

Still getting a lot of annoying feelings in my mouth all the time which I'll need to run through with the dentist on Monday and my upper left wisdom tooth feels like it moves whenever I touch it but that could be psychological so again will see on Monday. Might just be me winding myself up again as always. Here's hoping for a good appointment but I've got a niggling feeling that this time it won't be (they'll be taking a new X-ray I believe)

I'm glad to hear you're doing okay. Good luck on Monday! :)

So yep.... Fun...

That loose wisdom tooth mentioned..... Removed

Hygienist very happy with gums bottom are now in stage 2-1-2, top 3-3-3 which is massive improvement from when first went in they said so keep up the routine and see them on 3 months for pocket measuring

Bad news that after I went in to have the tooth extracted it appears my upper right wisdom might now also need removing as is loose and that RCT I mentioned back on page 2 definitely needs doing

The quote for it is enough to make my eyes water so I may have to call up my NHS dentist and go get it done there, but of course need to wait two weeks really anyway until this extraction has healed.
