So, I finally made the appointment for my wisdom teeth extraction and it's in 1 WEEK. I thought I could handle myself but I'm still terrified. 1. I HATE needles. I've passed out/almost passed out with needles before. Not because of pain, just the idea. Is it the same/worse/better than getting blood drawn? 2. I'm paranoid of getting sick afterward. My body is pretty sensitive and I hateee throwing up b/c everytime, it makes me feel like fainting as well. It's weird. I also hate dizziness and I'm worried about that. I'm NOT getting laughing gas, and my anesthesiologist told me that the reason lots of people get sick is from the laughing gas. He said they don't even use it anymore. He said I could take a valium 45 before, but I'm also worried that it will just make the drowsiness worse and since I'm sensitive I dont' wanna get freaked out. The last thing is I'm afraid of choking/vomiting during surgery. Someone told me the reason you can't eat is b/c if you throw up you can die from it going into your lungs, and now I'm soo worried, is it possible for something to happen even with the fast?

Aaaahhh sorry i'm so insanely paranoid. This is one of the scariest things I've done, since I've never been hospitalized or put under with an IV. I know I'll probably be fine, but all these thoughts keep coming into my mind. Can somebody answer some of the questions honestly, and maybe offer some support?

Thanks so much.

Hi :welcome:to the forum.

1 Don't be afraid of the needle they use to numb you, it is much better than getting blood drawn. You shouldn't feel it at all. When I had GA they put the needle in the back of my hand, I didn't feel it at all and I was asleep in a couple of seconds.

2 I am also afraid of being sick but you shouldn't be sick. I have had laughing gas for something different, it didn't make me laugh but it did make me sick. When they give you a GA it won't make you sick you will probably feel a bit groggy. A bit like when you have to wake up and find it hard to do so.

You won't choke or vomit during surgery. They will be watching you closely to make sure you are okay. They do this everyday all day and it is just routine to them. They are very skilled in what they do and will make sure you are comfortable. They are used to dealing with scared patients and you will be fine. You won't know anything until you come round. What someone told you about the not eating thing is true. Follow their instructions and you will be fine. If someone did happen to be sick because they had eaten and not let them know they have things they can do. Don't eat before the surgery and trust them and you will be fine.

You will feel a bit sore after once your gums thaw but you can take pain meds if you need them.

Try not to worry too much, all the best to you :grouphug::grouphug::butterfly:
