This is all going to be unbearable pain!!!

Hi so I'm 13 and I went to the dentist for the first time ever today and found out I have perodontic gum disease, cavitys in everyone of my molars exempt for the one I have to have a root canal on and 3 I need taken out because they have rooted!! I am so so scared is all this going to hurt? Guess I should of brushed my teeth more than once a month.......

No it shouldn't be. It is perfectly possible to do all of that without causing you any pain during treatment. Make sure the dentist numbs you up first and you shouldn't then feel any pain while they are working on your teeth. If you do, you should raise your arm to alert the dentist so they can top-up your numbing medicine.
You might want to ask your Mom to take you to another dentist for a second opinion first if you have any doubts about whether your teeth really do need that much treatment.

Did the dentist not offer you any reassurance about the procedures?

Hi thanks for your reply. I guess I always knew they needed lots of work done on them. Ecspecially when one started turning a funny colour. Once the first dentist looked he called in his co worker who has been a dentist longer than him for a second opinion as he couldn't believe how bad it was. He did anything but reasure me. When I asked if it would hurt he said of course it will Ecspecially the root canal and extraction and I also have a very big phobia of needles and generally the dentist. After he told me that it would hurt I started panicking and he said oh stop being silly 3 year old behave better than you and that I deserved needing all that work for not brushing well and the pain will teach me a lesson.

That does not sound like a suitable and responsible reaction.

Do not go back to a person who spoke to you in that manner, they are not going to treat you well and they are probably going to do a crap job of the dentistry (which means it won't last) at the same time.

None of the treatment needs to hurt with a competent dentist. The most you could get is afterpain between appointments maybe, which you would take tablets for.

Are you in the UK or USA? If in the UK your Mum needs to complain to the local PCT and the GDC about this dentist and you need to go to a different caring professional one.

Hi, just wanted to say that I just got back from appointment and I had my root canal and an extraction. Yesterday morning a tooth was so badly affected by the gum disease fell out by itself. It was the bottom one right at the front. I now look like a baby again as he also pulled out the one next to it and the front one at the top haha he decided Rhodes do were unsavible too. They didn't hurt but the molar I had taken out did hurt. Alot. The root canal hurt as well but not near as much. The first part of the cleaning was a bit uncomfortable as well but it didn't hurt. I go back next week for the other two extractions, some cavities filled and more cleaning. The week after that will be the crowns And getting the models for the fake teeth nd more cleaning. I have 5 more deep root cleaning after that and will have the new teeth fitted in about a month. I seemed to overcome my fear quite easily by going with my friend insted of my mum and really preparing myself for it. Tip of the day: brush your teeth more than once a month. Or u will have to have like 8 fake teeth put in before your even 14. Next thing to sort out in my life- losing some weight!! I weigh 13 stone 8 now and want be 10 stone 8 by my birthday!!

Sorry for the delayed reply. Glad you now feel happier but personally I wouldn't be satisfied by the quality of care you have received judging by the pain levels you described since I don't believe such pain to be necessary with modern techniques.

Good job on getting dental treatment but if I were your mum I'd have you off to a periodontist real quick, gum disease at age 13 that is bad enough to have bone and tooth loss sounds very aggressive (if not a bit fishy).
