Hi. This is my first time posting, so I apologize if it's in the wrong section.

I had my farthest upper molar removed on Friday at 3pm, and it was a rather scary process. My tooth was stuck so they had to cut it out, along with a huge chunk of gums (not trying to scare anyone, this was because I have long roots). Anyways, it's not day 4, almost day 5, and the pain is gone as well as most of the swelling.

My question is, what should the extraction site look like now? I have stitches, and I can't see the blood clot (haven't been able to ever, the stitches are in the way). There's a lot of grey tissue in that area, along with some bruises from the needle. Last night it started feeling a bit slimy on that side of my mouth. No odd smells or anything, and no pain. I'm on antibiotics as well.

I called my dentist yesterday, and they said as long as there is no smell or bad pain, Im fine.

That all sounds perfectly normal. Some greyish / white material with bruising is very typical until the gum tissue closes all the way over it which will happen within a couple of weeks. At 90 hours past the extraction with no pain or swelling you are about past the time frame where we'd worry about any complications!

Thank you very much! I ended up having my dentist check it, and he said it's fine. I'm a bit concerned that my gums in the surrounding area seem to be numb/slimy, but he says everything looked normal, and my risk of dry socket is gone.
