Tooth broke and is black inside... terrible pain!

I haven't been to the dentist in years and am terrified to go back after some bad cavity fillings as a teenager. I've been having a little pain in a molar for a while and today it just completely broke off. Like half the tooth is just gone. There's a massive black crater inside the tooth and it hurts TERRIBLY. I know I need to go to the dentist but I am terrified. What's going to happen to the tooth??

Either it'll need to be extracted or root canal treated. Neither will be anything close to as painful as it is now.

@krlovesherkids777 Had to get the tooth extracted Dentist said the decay had just progressed too far. Went back today for a cleaning / exam and got lots more bad news. My teeth are riddled with cavities.

Oh Maciez, I was just running out when I saw your message and got back from work. I'm so sorry you got the bad news. How are you doing after the extractions? and how was it going through it? What is the next steps? I know it can all seem so overwhelming.

@maciez63 You’re probably relieved now for having it extracted, I have back moral x2 that are terrible and I a, ashamed … I need to get them extracted next week.. I’ve been putting it off too long now. I’m 40 and used to drink 2-3 cans of cocacola a day.. i quit April last yr when my dad passed away. I’ve had terrible health anxiety issues since he passed too , never used to fear health or any sort of pain issues prior to him psssing. Now I am just riddled with fear I hope you’re okay… if it makes you feel any better check out my two molars I need to have removed … they are baddddd

@krlovesherkids777 The extraction was scary but not as bad as I expected. Took a few days to heal up before I felt back to normal. Unfortunately I have decay in 12 other teeth and am going for 4 root canals next week before getting the rest filled in. Sounds like I'm going to be living at the dentist's office for the next month or two.

Amazing job getting through the extractions! You are gaining positive momentum! You are amazingly brave to to face 4 root canals and the fillings! How was the dentist and team? Hope they are kind and pleasant and gentle!
