Unsure of new dentist procedure...should my partial plate be took out for a panoral???

I'm totally fearsome&nervous of dentist's and all that goes with it
and have just had to join a new surgey...
when they did my panarol it was awful as they didn't adjust the height of the chin rest on the machine and when it moved around my head I had to move along with it as it was pushing on my shoulders and they forgot to ask me to remove my partial denture plate...
I wondered if anyone inc. dentists could tell me if this is all normal?
I have later read that the pan-oral machine shouldn't touch you as it goes around your head
Also should my plate have been removed to get a clearer view on the resulting x-ray picture?
as in my opinion it did look blurred.
Any help much appreciated!

When a panoramic radiograph is taken the machine needs to be adjusted for each and every patient. If you have a partial denture it should be removed also any jewlery and tongue/nose rings need to be removed. It should not touch your shoulders and you must remain still. The actual position is somewhat unusual because we try to get your spine to be straight in the neck area so that we get the best picture possible.

Moving with the machine kind of defeats the purpose. Does your dentist know this happened- sounds like someone didn't know what they were doing. I would definetly mention it to him or her or call the practice manager. That's just not right.
