I was just wondering how very large cavities are fixed? My 2 front top teeth are badly decayed, all along the top and half way down the tooth (my gums above it are also discoloured, not sure if decay). I'm just wondering what will happen to fix them? They don't cause me any pain just major embarrassment. the main thing I am scared of is my first appointment and showing how bad my teeth are and also what he/she will do to them at the next appointment after that.

I am petrified of the injection, everywhere seems to say it's absolute agony. I've only ever had one injection in my life and that was for rubella when I was 11 and I remember the pain of it and how I almost cried and went really dizzy. I can't cope with that amount of pain again but I also can't cope with my confidence being rock bottom because of my teeth.

How are large cavities in the front teeth fixed and if I ask my dentist not to tell me all the problems I have everywhere else and just to focus on my front teeth for now will he?

Hi
It depends on a few things but it is likely that the teeth can be restored with either large white fillings, or crowns.
Embarassment is one of the most common issues I encounter on a daily basis when helping people with dental fear. Find a dentist who routinely works with people with dental phobias- as they are likely to be more understanding and less likely to say or do anything inappropriate.
There are a number of thimgs that can make the injections easier. Topical anaesthetic gel helps but really the main thing is to find a caring dentist who will give the anaesthetic slowly. If you can find a dentist who uses the wand, even better. The wand is excellent and allows for very comfortable injections.
The dentist will be obligued to tell you about all the issues they find, however it is really your choice as to where to start and what to do. If your priority is the front teeth, then that is where I would begin. Again, an understandng dentist is important in this respect.
Hope this helps!

Thanks so much Dr Mike.

I guess as I have anxiety I am worried that they would tell me everything and I would be too scared to have the treatment so then I would be worse off because I know exactly what is wrong then.

I'm going to ask if he/she can tell me just for now about my front teeth then tell me the rest after they have been done.

Is a crown something that has t be done and do they make the teeth look bigger?

It's just my 2 front teeth are quite large (not so I can't shut my mouth or anything large) but I don't want anything to make them look bigger
