I have a mouth ulcer on my gum for several weeks. It’s showing no sign of going and is really painful. I’ve read that persistent mouth ulcers can be a sign of cancer and now I’m really scared. I know I should see a dentist but I’m also really scared of dentists. Is there anything else I can try at home? Saltwater rinses and Corsodyl mouthwash haven’t made a difference. I tend to chew on that side so thought food may be irritating it. I’ve switched to eating on the other side for the last few days but it’s still not gone.

If that has genuinely been there for several weeks then yes, please go and get it looked at. It won't hurt and will just take a minute or two.
