Waterpik flosser

Hi JayCee, I've made your text slightly bigger because it was too hard to read, hope that's ok :).

I've never used a WaterPik so can't comment on the specifics, but why not use it while having a shower? That way, it doesn't matter if it sprays all over the place (as long as the shower is at least somewhat enclosed). Or is it attached to some sort of large reservoir?

Oh Jaycee we have all been there with the water squirting all over the bathroom, there is no advice I can give other than keep at it, it takes time and patience, I never totally mastered the art of the water flosser, but I gave it a good go, you do need a wet suit though, it does get better with time. I think my neighbours thought I may have gone mad because I used to end up with the water jet hitting me up the side of my head, and it shocked me and I ended up laughing in stitches all over the bathroom, it is not for the faint hearted.

letsconnect you really need to try one of these things, I am not so sure they do much for your gums and teeth that flossing in the usual manner doesn't do. But for entertainment value they are priceless the water jet goes all over. It hits the walls, doors, shower curtains, and the water runs down your arm and you end up stood in a puddle, you just think you have figured it out when you knock the on/off button and it hits you up the side of the head as I have said, I have even had an eye full, that really stings I wouldn't recommend it. In fact goggles may be a good idea, for your safety.:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::butterfly:

I must have the lamest irrigator around, mine has this nice gentle pulsing water flow that wouldn't even down a gnat if I shot at it. ;D These sound much more fun and challenging. Of course I don't own a wetsuit so I'm not sure that making a change is a good thing. ;) Even with the super gentle flow I have to agree with the rest, it took practice to work it so I didn't feel like I was hitting everywhere but my gums and to not have Niagra Falls drooling out of the corner of my mouth. Well, okay, that still happens...but don't tell anyone! Keep trying, I'm sure you'll get the hang of it and no time!!!

Yes takingflight they really are a source of entertainment, everyone should experience one just for that reason alone.:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Errrr... do I really come across as a sucker for punishment :o????

No no, think I'll leave the fun and games to you guys :P (despite my love of electronic gadgets, this particular one does not appeal, lol :giggle:)

Never say never letsconnect, you don't know what you are missing, they are for bathroom use though.:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::butterfly:

Thank you for the suggestion of the shower, letsconnect! I hadn't thought of that. The Panasonic version I have bought is a portable one, bit like an electric toothbrush, so it charges on a stand when not in use and you fill the chunky handle part of it with water, so I could try it in the shower. I expect I will be able to master the spraying everywhere eventually, but it is trying to get the jet nozzle at the right angle to do the inside face of the lower teeth that is the difficult part. Carys, I see you have the same problem as me with the lower jaw - nice to know I'm not the only person who says flippin heck! Although when I jet-washed my tongue my language could have got stronger.

It's probably just a matter of practice, but I am determined to conquer it before I get my implant done. I have pretty bad arthritis in my hands so flossing is not easy and I have read that implants have to be kept really clean at the gum level to prevent bacteria building up. (I am amazed that I can actually be discussing this sort of thing after a lifetime of phobia - quick pat on the back!)

I'll keep at it....

When I jet-washed the back of my throat.... so was mine !! :giggle:

I just got one and am learning how to use it. It takes several attempts to get it right. Also it hurt my teeth a bit as I was going along the gumline because I was using it incorrectly. I think the water needs to be warmer and not to let the general water jet head touch your teeth. I had to watch a youtube demo after to see exactly how to use it. At first I hated it and thought it was simply a gimic but as so many people use it and its supposed to be more effective than string then I will carry on

I have actually researched on line and found that string floss gets rid of more plaque because it gets right in between the teeth whereas a waterpik does not.

So Is a waterpik simply a fancy gadget for people too lazy to manual floss

I have had such a laugh reading this thread, as I have done all that has been spoken here. When I turn mine on, the poor dog runs. Ive even half bathed him with the dang thing. I have the handheld one, and just started using it, hoping for a smoother outcome for my root planing and scaling on April 7th and I am scared senseless! My son thought my water flosser was for the grout in the bathroom LOL He had the strangest look on his face when he saw me stick this funny looking thing in my mouth.... Now I know why. I do use a bit of listerine cool mint with the water. My gums feel really good afterwards, and the bathroom smells minty.. thanks to me spraying the mirror, counter, sink, wall and floor. Sigh... all I need to do is get through this root planing stuff... I will try to think of this thread and chuckle to myself

How nice to see this thread on here up front again. We had many hours of fun and laughter at the time when it was first started. It is good to know that it has provided a giggle for someone else too.

Patient they shouldn't be used as a replacement for floss but if you enjoy using it then go for it. If someone really hated flossing and didn't do it then these are better than nothing. I go in fazes with mine. They are very good if you have bridges and crowns and they can't do any harm. Have you tried some mouth wash in yours mixed with the water.

Disneymom good luck with your root planning :clover::clover::clover: if the flossers do no more than get us all laughing then they are a good thing. I would advise some kind of goggles when using one of these as it don't half sting the eyes :rofl::rofl: I am really pleased it gave you a giggle. It is good to laugh :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

I read this wonderful thread, and then proceeded to face *the enemy* (waterpik) I felt so silly, as I smile, giggled, and sprayed not only the mirror, but it shot back on my face LOL. I guess I should refer to that as my dental facial! Thank you for the well wishes for my upcoming root planing and scaling. Best wishes from New Jersey, USA :butterfly::you-rock:
