Greetings everybody, thank you for making this forum possible!

I would like to share my concerns about my current situation:

I am an American expat married and living in Indonesia.

My wife had the following X-ray scan last week:

Yuni_xray_oct2012_crop1.jpg

About a month ago, she experienced severe acute pain at the back of her head, like intense migraine, directly on her spinal cord. Not being prompt to migraine, we considered the option that it could come from a wisdom teeth getting closer to a nerve.

Which bring many concerns about having a tooth removed in a country where the standards are much lower than average.

She is usually not in pain, doesn't have any problem eating. It's hard to connect her painful episode of migraine with her wisdom teeth. It only happened one time; we can't isolate the scenario and repeat it to confirm anything whatsoever. It would be a preventive surgery, not knowing what it is (the migraine cause).

Her lower wisdom teeth both have a mesio angular position as I understand it. There isn't much detail on the X-Ray for the lower right wisdom teeth root. It seems dangerously close to the nerve but I am not a specialist obviously.

Can anybody tell me if the lower right wisdom tooth is problematic in regards to the nearby nerves or for the extraction procedure?

Any thoughts from a specialist would be greatly appreciated.
Any thoughts on having a tooth extracted in Asia or Indonesia, either from experience or as a personal opinion would be also appreciated.

Thanks and regards,

Hi,
I don't know any dentists in the far east but I know there are some good clinics there like in Thailand and Singapore. Surely there are good dentists in Indonesia, probebly in the big cities. A good indicator for the quality of the dental work is where has the dentist graduated.
If you guys plan a visit home, you can send this X-ray to a dentist there and have an appointment for it.
The wisdom tooth can cause pain (named pericoronitis), but the fact that the wisdom tooth is close to the nurve does not explain the migraine. It does mean that it has to be removed carefully (better with an oral surgeon).

Hi WisdomT23 and welcome

I am sorry to hear that your wife has this problem, and although I don't have personal experience of dentists so far away, my nephew who lives is Australia is married to a lovely Thai lady, and they go to Thailand a couple of times a year to see her family, and always get their dental treatment done while they are there.

I am more than happy to contact my nephew for details of where they go if that is an option for you?

Let me know, and in the meantime, I hope things stay on an even keel for your wife :)

Take care.

Kim
