This is my first post and thought i should get my story out here so hopeful I can get some advice and give hope to others that are too scared to post that can relate to my post. So i finally after 5(?) or so years I've decided enough is enough I need to go to the dentist and get my teeth back in a shape that i'm proud of. I have schedule an appointment for Saturday Feb 15 or Monday 17 which ever one they have. I do have insurance but i will still have to pay out of pocket which is a worry to me. Well a little about my teeth, I have all my wisdom teeth in but they are badly decay and in need to be removed. I have one that is completely gone. I'm worry about what they are going to do about that. Has anyone experience that before??? I have multiple cavities. My main worry is that my wisdom teeth are going to hurt when they try to remove them or they won't be able to remove them. They are very broken. Also another fear of mine is what they are going to say when they look into my mouth i don't want them to judge me, but their is nothing i guess i can do about it. I have researched dentist and hopefully i found one that will work for me. Any advice would be much appreciated. Also if you need any more information don't hesitate to ask and i will keep everyone update with my experience. Thanks for taking the time to read this post!!!

Hi, I hope you find some peace. Remember dentist see LOTS of teeth, it's what they to, and don't worry not everyone is lucky enough for perfect teeth. I also find a lot of people who do have wisdom teeth have issues with them.. And most don't get them looked at until years later.. You are going a good thing trying to get yourself in healthier shape now! I'm sorry I can't offer much support but I recently had my final two wisdoms removed and mine where rotting and slightly impacted.. My other molars are filled with cavities and decay yet the dentist doesn't look funny or say anything.. They do their job. It is hard having someone that close to your personal space I know, but just remember it is their job. And they should look After you! If not.. Find a better dentist! They are out there..

Good luck with your appointments. I wish you the best xo remember, you are not alone!

You have a brilliant reply from Wisdomless, but I thought I'd reply too and say you're very brave. It takes lots of courage to find a dentist and make an appointment - well done! I really hope your dentist is kind, I'm sure he/she will be. Your teeth will NOT be the worst they've ever seen, not by a long way. I realise it's tough getting on the chair and opening your mouth, but no good dentist will be horrified. You're making the effort to sort things out which is more than many people do.

I'm sure you'll be fine, looking forward to reading more from you. Big hugs and good luck - Claire x

UPDATE!!!!

Thank you everyone for the encouraging words! It really helps. Dentist called and i made the Appointment for Februray 19th at 2:30 .. soo D-Day approaches the recepontist was really kind and caring about my needs. She was very understanding, which is a good start. She offer a day in March but reading all the different comments on the forum i realized if i didn't get it done soon i might just chicken out. So its schedule i will let everyone know how i goes!! Wish me luck

Good luck!! :clover::clover: Any good dentist will not judge you, they just want to help you get your mouth healthy. If any dentist does judge you or make you feel uncomfortable then they are not the dentist for you and you don't have to put up with it, just leave and find another dentist you can work with. Luckily the majority of dentists nowadays are very understanding and kind.

Use this forum to ask any question/get support as much as you need to, you can do this!

Good luck tomorrow tinyprincess!! I'm very proud of you for making the appointment and for getting to this point.

If you're anything like the rest of us, you're probably a nervous wreck right now, but you'll feel so fantastic when you get through tomorrow, and you'll probably kick yourself a little for putting it off once you learn how easy and painless it is.

If you want to read how my first day went (almost two years ago now, and it seems like both forever and yesterday at the same time), you can check out my journal.

Dentists these days are so kind and compassionate, and won't judge you or make funny faces. It will be over before you know it, and once you get started, it gets so much easier.

Good luck tomorrow, and let us know how you did! I'll be thinking about you.

You are totally right i am a nervous wreck. I can't believe the appointment is almost here. I have been reading post on here to help calm me down, and hopeful i can get through tomorrow with no major issues!! I will let everyone know what the outcome is and hopeful the dentist and hygienist are nice. My husband offered to come with me but i decided it would be too much pressure to have him there so im doing this all on my own!!
Thanks for the support don't know what i would do without this site!!

So appointment went better then i excepted. The dentist made me feel really good through the whole thing. The hygentist even numb my mouth with topical cream so that the cleaning wasn't so painful. She was really nice even made me laugh! So the verdict is i need all four of my wisdom teeth out they are already in but they are causing pain and broken so we need to get them out and i guess my mouth isn't quite big enough for them. I also need two root canals done which i have schedule the appointment but think im gonna call them tomorrow and see if i can move it up after i get through with my medication so i can them done before vacation. I also have ten cavities which he said he can tackle when i am ready and have the money. He said we can take it slow and that hes job is to make sure i am comfortable and i should never have any pain.

I will say i was beyond nervous beforehand but i brought a stressball and relaxation music and let them know i was scared they didn't fuss about how my teeth got this way just that we are going to make them better! Also i didn't even get a lecture!! I have to say im a little nervous about the root canal appointment but i trust these dentist and soo happy i found someone i feel comfortable with and didn't judge me!

Woooohoooooo!!!! You did it!!!!!!!

I'm so proud of you and happy that your dentist and team were really gentle and kind with you. There's really no need for lectures and scolding-- it's stressful enough going to the dentist without it!

Try not to feel too overwhelmed by the work you need. Usually none of this stuff is a rush, so you can space it out as you can afford it, and just to give yourself a little break in between. I took almost two years to get all my stuff sorted out, spaced out kind of once a month with some longer breaks in between. Other people like to just get it all over as quickly as possible.

Root canals have a bad reputation, but they're really painless-- completely! I've had root canals done on my lunch break and been back to work with no pain or problem.

Now that you're started, you'll find that you gradually trust your dentist a little more each time. It really doesn't have to hurt at all, and your dentist will work with you to keep you calm and make sure you're never in pain.

And then soon... you'll be all fixed up!!!! Having been through it myself, I can tell you that every day I feel so lucky and happy to have all the dental anxiety behind me. All the constant worrying about when I might have to see the dentist, what was wrong with my mouth, etc, are gone. And really for me, pretty much the day I got started I felt a million times better, just knowing that I had faced the dentist and that there was a plan to get my teeth fixed.

I'm so so happy for you!!! Soon you'll be on vacation and you won't have to bring a giant bag of dental worries with you. Be sure to keep us posted, and feel free to ask any questions or share and worries about any of the procedures... lots of people on here have been through these and can tell you how easy and painless they all are.

Great job!

Steve i'm happy to be through it just a little nervous about the unknown of a root canal since i have never had one done before that part is freaking me out. As well as getting my widsom teeth out, they are all in so its more of an extraction then actually wisdom tooth cutting the gums. The dentist said he could do it but with the two root canals my insurance is all used up so he suggested going to an oral surgen that took my medical insurance since that covers it and then i won't have to come soo much out of pocket. I just now is the saving the money in order to get my teeth in order. Kicking my self in the butt for waiting soo long!

So root canal appointment is tommorow and this morning i woke up with a stuffy nose hope it gets better! A little nervous about what is gonna to happen at the appointment. I trust the dentist and i know i won't be in pain its just the fear of the unknown i guess. I will keep everyone updated. I did go see an oral surgeon about my wisdom teeth that was a horrible experince. Swear i will explain later. Thanks for the support!!
