I have to drive self to dentist for 6 month check up (following an overdue check up, a filling, some hygienist appts, 3, and deep clean which have gone fine...... this is the next thing)

Rationally it *should* be ok - but having still to force myself out of my phobia and go when I *really* don't want to and have achieved nothing of a very long list should be doing this morning...

Just writing it here as I know people here understand and - er so that I actually go!!!!!

I can't work out if more than 6 months for a check up would be the way to go for me - I SO don't want to fall off the wagon into denial again!!!!

talking to myself but....back - and "only" a very gentle telling off for not cleaning everywhere properly which will work on :)

That's one more check up done. We can do this. Good luck to all the other scared people x

Well done Angel! :jump: You should feel very proud of yourself for breaking the cycle of avoidance and continuing to go as preventative. It's easy to stop going when we aren't having pain. It sounds like you are on the right path for a future of good dental health. Half the battle with this fear is that unlike flying or clowns it is something we must face at least every 6 months. Treat yourself to a little something for your accomplishment! You earned it! :)

Hi Angel,
You weren't talking to yourself! I read your post and boy, did I sympathise with it, but I felt too embarrassed to offer support as I was supposed to go for a check-up in July and still haven't made an appointment! So I'm far from a shining example on this forum. Personally, I find the longer between appointments, the less inclined I am to go back. I'd be better off going every month, lol. Congratulations to you! :respect:

well done Angel! I think getting into a routine and gradually building up a relationship of trust with a dentist is key. I too have been going for regular check-ups and that has really helped...well until now, when I suddenly need work done! Keep it up. You'll get there!

Thanks guys! I hadn't thought of rewarding self - good plan!

I've booked the next one in 6 months nice and early in the day so hopefully that will help!

thanks again xxx (means so much to know people understand)
