Cavities on xray not show?

I have been having this pain and had no idea where it was coming from. Well I was in looking at my teeth again today and noticed a spot I hadn't seen before. I had a tooth extracted about a month and a half ago and the tooth next to it does have some decay on the side but NOW I can see what appears to be a small hole I can feel with my fingernail same side of same tooth but right at the gumline. Could this have been missed when I went in just a couple weeks ago? Maybe the extraction site was still swollen or something because I just visually noticed it today. An xray was taken of that side though because I was having pain but the Dentist didnt see anything besides those we already know about.

One more thing, if it is a cavity at the gumline and it is causing pain it should still be able to just need a filling right? It's about the size of a ball point pen tip. (Hoping)

I'm already going to have three more teeth pulled and I am scared to death of losing more and I just can't afford to pay for root canals. I think this may be the source of the pain I couldn't find all this time.

I have an appt on the 24th for extractions but Id like to call and get this taken care of soon but my anxiety is acting up (anx disorder) and I feel like an idiot after last time I didn't know where the pain was coming from.

Generally cavities along the gumline don't cause pain unless they are quite deep. They can be sensitive though and can be filled if necessary. If the dentist didn't comment on it, they might have felt it was not an issue nor the source of the pain. You could ask your dentist about it if you are concerned.

I'm going to have to call and ask to see him again. This spot wasn't visible before but I would have thought it would show on the xray taken not long ago. It is definitely a small hole. I'm worried.

Of courser I'm nowhere near to being an expert on dental (or any other) matters, but could it perhaps be, not a cavity but tartar? Anyhow,as its less than 3 weeks to your appointment I'm sure not much more damage could happen in that time, but of course, its not me and if you are at all worried it is sensible to get in just to put your fears at rest. So do let us know what happens.

Ok well I called and I guess they are going to check the tooth on the 24th and if there is time maybe take care of it. Now here's hoping the tooth pain stays tolerable till then and the tooth doesn't get worse.
