so i have a crown that fell off.. it was on with temp cement. the tooth below is not RCd. It caused me a lot of pain for almost the year I have had it, so i am quite happy it feel off.

what i have been doing is eating with it on and then popping it off after i eat and leaving it off.. with little to no pain. I brush the nub and it fits pretty tight when I eat and I eat very carefully..

can you see any problems with me leaving it like this.

I would only put a crown on with a temporary cement if I thought I might need to access the tooth below for a future root canal. If the problems with the tooth have settled since the crown fell off then you should see the dentist and explain this so the crown can be corrected and recemented.
If the tooth had settled some time ago then by repeatedly fitting/removing the crown you risk inflamming the nerve and reviving the previous problem. Either way my advice would be not to continue as you are doing at present.
best of luck
