Dental Surgery under GA in the UK - resume

I’m just wondering if anyone knows generally when hospitals in the UK might resume extractions under a GA.

The reason I ask is because I wonder how they will manage it.

I was going to struggle to start with getting someone to go with me and remain at the hospital and stay with me over night at home never mind now during this Covid 19 situation.

I wonder if they are going to encourage people to integrate with another household so the operation can be carried out because as far as I’m aware they won’t carry it out unless you do have that person with you and to go home with.

What’s going to happen if no one is willing to come with me because they don’t want to risk it, are they just going to say you can’t have any treatment until all of this is under better control which could take years.

Just curious really.

I can sympathize I'm not due an op but my appointments are in a hospital+my may one was cancelled (still only half way through implants) with no signs of any other appointments. There needs to be clearer guidelines as only people with emergencies are getting help, where does that leave the rest of us.

Yeah I was just curious as to how they would handle it because someone that didn’t have anyone to go to the hospital with them for their surgery would therefore be penalised although I doubt they could admit them either for the night as I don’t think this sort of operation would allow it.

I expect by the time the hospitals start doing GA for dentistry again that the lockdown will have eased enough that it's not an issue for a non-family member to stay overnight with the patient.

It's very unlikely that the hospital will admit a patient overnight due to lack of an escort.

I rang the dental community team at the hospital up today for an update and they said they have postponed all operations and appointments and have no date planned for restarting yet.

There was a very worrying paper in the Lancet this month about patients going in for other surgery being extremely high risk for Covid and having very poor outcomes, so I can see why they are reluctant to restart routine surgeries.

Anyone received updates on their hospital treatment?

I had a phone call yesterday asking if I still wanted my treatment under GA and then she said she would record my answer on their system and someone would be in touch.

Unfortunately all she could say in terms of dates is the foreseeable future.

Hope they get back to you soon.
