Hey Scaredy...both the women will be assisting :( D told me she is only allowed to handle the implant stuff i guess to increase the sterile field and M does whatever else. the scan is at the end to make sure it's placed right so i amm scared the mean one would do it. actually right now im equally as scared i am not going to be able to make it through the whole thing as it looks pretty rough and that i will end up having to take those god awful antibiotics and it still won't heal :(
whatvif i can't stop panicking...what if i move...what if he messes up...what if something isnt sterile enough i mean my mouth will be all cut up and they will be making me bite on that thing probably before they close things that can't be sterile nor safe at all...i mean they wouldn't stitch it up and put the cap if they are checking placement. what if i make it loose running or with my workouts. i mean she said i could do whatever but whatvif that just means bone won't form. what if i reject the post antibiotics wouldn't change that anyway. I really don't think i will be able to sit through this it sounds like they are pretty slow and they are brutal when handling your face and mouth...
if thecteeth around these get damaged i'll lose them all they are all crowned as close to the nerve as possible without root canals and even though he did 2 root canals of mine without the 3d scanner D said he uses it for those now tooo and i abdolutely cannot allow that again!!! i don't care if it makes it less likely to miss something he dod the 2 without just fine...but i dont think he will bend his new rule what will i do if he refuses? i'm screwed. Dr c said i'd never have to do the ct scan again after this unless the implant f'd up or i need another one :*( i can't just get those things every year or 6mo they aren't safe CT scans are massive doses and unless im dying i just can't I already have cysts in my head and it doesn't take too much exposure like that to change benign to cancer. And yes i know i will need more root canals and if he does one when i refusecthe scanner he might mess it up on purpose just to force me to get a scan for that and amy future one.

why didvthey put a temp bridge in with perm cement? they used sedative with my temp crown and it came off fine. it could just be some root irritation from the angry gums and work. don't eat on it brush it hard and try to stay away from acidic and sweet things ( they feed bad bacteria. if you can find clove oil get some dilute it in either warmed unrefined coconut oil, unrefined sesame oil or virgin olive oil. Rub it on your gums with a cotton ball or your finger it will help with pain an it is antibacterial. might help settle yours down

You sound so much like me. I worry over every possible thing that could go wrong, and I hate even having the digital xrays that I think they do way too often as it is, and once signed the waiver so I could skip a couple years, and they said if I skipped any more xrays to find a new dentist.

I don't know a lot about implants but I do know they have a very high success rate and can last your entire lifetime and that is what you should try to focus on :) I know it's hard not to think of all the things that could go wrong but it is so much more likely that this will turn out well and yours will be a success.

The reason (he says) for the permanent cement is partly due to the type of bridge. I did not want a traditional bridge with crowns on both sides because my premolar has never even had a cavity and I did not want it ground down to a stub to be crowned and risk needing a root canal. so my bridge is sort of a combination of cantilever bridge and inlay/Maryland bridge. one side of the fake tooth is attached to a crown on my second molar. the fake tooth is my first molar, and that is attached to a sort of inlay/wing that is cemented into a tiny notch that was cut out of my premolar, no crown there. he said because of not having 2 crowns temporary cement would not be strong enough to hold it in and it would be unstable, that I would be in his office every other day getting it recemented. The other reason is because I am worried about needing a root canal in my second molar and told him I will not be in a hurry to get my permanent bridge on as soon as it comes in. He says since I want to keep the temporary bridge on for up to a couple of months or more while I see if my tooth settles or needs root canal that temp cement would not last that long and he wants to make sure this temp bridge does not come off until I tell him to take it off.

i really just don't think i can sit through this and come out of it ok. i just don't see it happening. then coupled with feeling bullied about the antibiotics that i flat out don't want because i will be miserable for months after trying to get my system back on track. what if they purposely decide to cause infection to prove a point. i really don't think my gums will heal either they have pulled away from the side of the tooth next to the gap. my tooth next tothe hole wil probably die due to trauma. i fully expect to be unable to workout for a month or more and massive swelling and bruising from his roughness. i don't know how i'll leave the house or go back to work.

i really can't do it there's no way. i'll never heal or be normal

what if my other teeth fall outfrom the drilling. will my other teeth get loose.

And they are totally going to f up my face. it will never loose the bruising and swelling. it took me months to feel like my face was normal after my wisdom teeth...i wish he would be gentle but he isnt

is there someone you can bring with you to your appointment so that you feel more like you have someone on your side and so you don't feel bullied?

my dad is coming in town just for this since they told me i couldn't run home after or rather Dr C said i probably could but wouldn't be emotionally ok to do so...and she is probably right hence her sitting in...maybe she's as worried as i am about a flashback.
Downside he is military so he'd be of the mind shut up and do what they tell you. Also he has no idea about the trauma in my past. They just think I'm irrational and nuts. mean while it's more PTSD coupled with some dental fear from past fillings and such gone awry. I am really depending on Dr C here to make sure if i panic that i am at least out of the major part before i leave. Can't really have him finding out all that now and she and i had a vague discussion about it after a year of me dancing around the issue.

Dad gets so angry i make him come in town because I tend to take the wounded animal approach and fake being normal and ok afterwards (never let them see a weakness) but really i am rather broken on the inside.

wow that was a babble :/ sorry.vi have a friend i would take shevis very much into holistic health and is good at standing up to doctors in a respectful but firm way. unfortunatelybshe has a 2yr old and 6mo old...she probably would have gotten a sitter but i didn't want to ask that much of her.

something else because i know full well a root canal will happen agan the dental assistant mentioned Doing a 3d scan for a root canal on another patient enter the freak out...i had 2 done by dr H using regular xrays now i am freaking petrified he will refuse to do them the old way and i already made dr C swear i would never get back in that machine exceptbfor another implant. i'm sorry but i'd rather risk nerding thevroot canal redone than havingbanother scan. i have done research and i know exactly the amount of radiation i am receiving and let me explain how much i am not comfortable with 2 of these in 2cmonths or ever again. What if he refuses. seems silly he could get a couple of grand or nothing butbi will prob be too scared to scared to try another place...the assistant madecit sound like the man was really pissed so that scares me even more that he might not be willing to bend and now im freaking out that i may lose all my teeth or be subjected to extremely unhealthy radiation doses repeatedly. i really need dr c to confirm she can talk him into it since i am her patient. i know one is coming i am fairly certain something in the new work is dying. im so scared he'll force me into that machine

Wow. on the one hand I am glad you won't be going alone. On the other hand I'm sorry you have nobody with you whom you are comfortable sharing your fears with.

I would be wary of the excess radiation too. No matter what they say the effects are cumulative, and I don't believe in using it when it is not absolutely necessary.

I will be with you in spirit.

just an aside...i just found out i may not have a job after tuesday. looks like the company in this area may be bought by a non 24hr business which would eliminate me. f'ing great like i need this on top of my dental panic

also prob shouldn't have looked at studies on corroding and leaching implants and reactions from multiple metals in mouth. I have 2 amalgams left one next to the implant site and im pretty sure some of my crowns are lined with metal maybe thays whybi have recessions?

And once a reaction occurs it can affecct breathing energy balance as well as normal dental symptoms. it typically takes loads of doctor drugs and tests before anyone entertains it might be the metal...i so don't want to go thru that

Reading about it is the last thing you should be doing. I have scared myself near to death reading details of things I wish I could un-know.
Just try to think about what a high success rate implants have. I know I am probably the last person to say that considering I was too chicken to get one myself... but if I had been brave enough to do it I would not be getting my third bridge for the same tooth within a year.

Hey Tiger -

How are you holding up?

I know you know this already, but if you can, try to stop looking stuff up! You are just tormenting yourself. I know, I get it, we can be our own worst enemies sometimes. Try to give yourself a break from it, even just for a little while.

I know it's hard to really accept this when it's all so frightening - your head is on high alert here looking for threats - but really, honestly, the dentists are on your side, and they will do all that they can to take good care of you and keep you safe  They want to do what's best for you, really!

Just to pick up on something that was suggested upthread, whether you choose to take antibiotics or not is of course entirely your choice - you need to do what's right for you - but what I will say is that it's important that you tell your dentist the truth about whether you are taking the antibiotics or not, and what other supplements and so on you are using. Tell them *everything* you are taking and not taking, alternative or otherwise. They are prescribing medications for you, so in order to properly help you and treat you safely they need to know the truth about what choices you are making.

Ultimately, everything is always, always your choice. But I promise, however it might feel, they are not out to harm you, they are doing their best for you.

You'll get through this x

hey tink i've tried to mention what i take but they dont seem to care or know what it does.they are only doing an antibiotic anyway so i guess it's fine and i have no intention of changing any of them regardless. Funny thing is i asked about drinking and she said oh go ahead...but if i were to take antibiotics you aren't supposed to drink with them. Does no one ever read the stuff that comes with their pills? I've also told her many times i am not taking these antibiotics but it seems she still operates under the idea they are harmless.
besides one of this places dentist said he doesnt typically prescribe antibiotics for a single tooth implant unless bone grafting. my luck they won't tell me and do it anyway.

my dentist was supposed to call me yesterday and never did. i feel even less safe now. She doesn't work again till surgery day and not only will i not be able to communicate but she is less likely to give me an honest answer when other staff are around re my questions on holistics and alternative options especially around implant/root canal guy and his main staff it's very clear that he is all about drugs and is very unwilling to entertain anything else. i really wanted some honesty that wasn't hindered by others and i also wanted to know if i was going to havevto go elsewhere for future root canals since his main asdistant made it sound very much like he only does them with a 3d scan now and there is no way in hell i will do that. especially after he has done 2 of mine with digital xrays

randomly disolving in tears rather than cleaning my house is a total mess and i need to clean it before dad comes or i'll be screamed at for more than just being a pansy at the dentist but i can't even function. And assuming my job isn't eliminated monday this is the only time i have to clean.

I don't even know what to say to that so I am sending you some (((((hugs))))) and positive thoughts.

I'm sorry your Father just doesn't get it. Most people don't get it anyway...
Dental phobia does not make you a pansy. I have met some of the bravest people I know on this forum.
I think you are very brave to have come this far.

Hi, you can do this, you're going to be ok. Really

Remember I'm not saying you have to take antibiotics, just suggesting you tell them the truth about whether you're going to take them or not (this was in response to a suggestion from scardey upthread, not anything you said). You are telling her, so it's all good.

Re alcohol, it depends on the antibiotic - e.g. I think metronidazole is the one where you *really* shouldn't drink as it reacts very badly, but amoxicillin is ok with alcohol. I've recently finished a course of amoxicillin and I read the leaflet very carefully, including specifically looking for that, it really is OK to drink. So your dentist is not misinformed about that.

Your dentist is being honest with you, really! They're not going to do stuff behind your back or harm you on purpose. Remember all the things she is doing - like sitting in when you are having treatments with her colleague - she's really on your side, she wants to help.

Also, what scardey said! I know its hard for you to see it right now, but you really are brave x

i just wish she''d stop changing her mind. originally after the scan she said i would be fine without antibiotics but she back peddled last time. and i just feel like i am bullied into taking them.

i mean i am never going to feel safe if iake it through this i almost want to cancel. i am more scared of what those anyibiotics do to me than the proceedure right now. I can't even workout or run i spent my whole 5 miles feeling like i'm choking on tears over it.

i'll respond to you ladies properly later i'm currently in meltdown land
