LITTLE BIT!!! You're amazing![smiley=jumping.gif]

Lol I wouldnt go that far.. But thanks so much for the support. One question though is he said not to spit or suck . An has me biting a gause now. Said it would bleed a little an to change the gause in a hour. Well wny dont I want to spit this blood out ? An it seems like alot of blood...but I dont know obviously since I dont get dental work done. Just seems like my mouth is fell of blood an I let the spit dribble out of my mouth in the sink a few times an its all blood. Thoughts? About bow long it may take or when should I start to panic? What to ear now too?

You need to bite hard on the gauze, this will apply pressure and help a clot to form and stop the bleeding.
I can't believe that you did this I couldn't have done it on my first visit.
Not so much the scardy cat after all. If you are still a bit numb you might want to take some painkillers before it wears of.
How good do you feel right now [smiley=jumping.gif] [smiley=jumping.gif] [smiley=jumping.gif]
Sometimes what we think is a lot of blood, isn't that much, it's hard to say without seeing it.
I am lucky that I stop bleeding in the dentists surgery when I have teeth extracted, but my mum bleeds after and finds blood on the pillow in the morning, she puts a towel on the pillow to protect it.
The dentist you have is obviously wonderful, keep him and get all the work you need done.

I am so happy for you, I'm cheering and jumping up and down in celebration in my head for you. Well done.
I am so glad this went well, now everything will be a breeze, very few people could have faced an extraction on the first appointment.
Did he give you a sheet with information on about what to do now.

Forgot to add the food you will probably feel most comfortable eating soup, yogurt, spaghetti, and mash potato things that you don't have to chew. Drink warm drinks not out of the fridge cold or red hot tea or coffee. I normally avoid beans, rice and soup with bits in because I once had an episode with a baked bean when I had had a tooth out years ago. An oxo cube melted in warm water is nice and tasty.
You will feel a bit sore for a couple of days but it's bearable.

Yeah you've done it :D

:-[ thanks... It kinda happended so fast that I dont know I went with the intentions of talking an whining an or crying lol but ...i dont know I just kinda shook my head an yeah yeah take a look....then kinda shook my head an said yeah pull it. Sigh. So strange I know. For whatever reason it went that way but yeah he is an older guy an is so nice an gentle. If you can use that word but its hard to focus on that cause I drift away thinking about my visit next month for the filling an wonder if I can deal with the extra time that takes an the sounds that go with it. After all I got that tunnel vison today an wanted to black out or vomit. I had to take a few mins an fan myself with my hat. Which I wore jeans in there cause doctors offices always seem cold but after he numbed me I was sweating like mad.

Yeah I guess its not that much blood as it seems maybe it was just mixed with spit. It was just gross an baby like when I changed the pad out I got that dizzy feeling looking at an messing with it. He didnt givr me anything paper wise just told me not to eat anything hard that would get in there like chips. Said maybe a milkshake which I ate some ice cream but almost want something heavy in my belly cause I still feel weak. You would swear iam recovering from a gun shot wound by how iam acting. Over dramatic I know lol

Shall see how later tonight goes as I have to work tomorrow an saturday I have too much to do an should not have taken today off....

Thank you again so much [smiley=hugging.gif]

You did right taking the day off because you're not supposed to exercise or go racing about after an extraction. You will be fine tomorrow. Eat what you feel you can.
Do not brush your teeth tonight or in the morning, tomorrow at about this time rinse gently with warm salt water and do it as often as you can, do this for the next seven days, this will help prevent infection and it will help it to heal up quicker. When you do brush your teeth tomorrow evening be careful not to bang where the tooth was extracted.
I would take painkillers now if you haven't because it is probably going to hurt, so avoid this stage, I do.
Don't worry about the filling it will be fine. Bask in the glow of todays success. Heck when I have a tooth out I feel like a little girl and quite sorry for myself, much how you have described you feel.

If it really starts to bleed get some gauze and make a roll like the one you've just used, if you don't have gauze a hanky or kitchen roll, rolled really tightly and made slightly damp to prevent it sticking will do the job.
I wish you a good and speedy recovery.
Yes you can call dentists gentle, that's what we want them to be.

Sweet...sounds good would love for it to feel normal an eat away. I ate some soup tonight as I have a strange feeling iam going to get food in the hole an its going to get stuck or rot....still feels weird an gross to touch it*:'( with my tounge only did it a few times but I just get queezy an slight jaw pressure with a tad ache.

Awesome, AWESOME job!
Wow, you should be SOOOO happy with yourself. You did a difficult thing today (showing up at the dentist's) and then you went WAY BEYOND and got that nasty tooth out. I am so very, very happy for you.
Be kind to yourself and your extraction site now. Everyone panics about caring for it, and maybe doesn't really hear the instructions from the dentist. It really is so simple to do, but extremely important. If you have a ? or concern, call your dentist!
*Unless it's "gushing" blood, you're probably OK. Apply gauze pressure as instucted.
*Saline rinses are so important. Warm water, a little table salt (it should taste salty)....don't "swish". Just let that salty water bathe over the extraction site. It is very comforting. Don't spit...let it dribble out (weird, but do it). Do it as many times as you can (I did it every hour).
*Take pain meds before it hurts. I stayed on Tylenol for 2 days, and never felt pain.
*Liquid diet. Get good stuff in you without chewing.
*No straws, or any sucking motion. Best case scenario=no alcohol for the rest of the day.
*When in doubt, call your dentist.
This is what I was told to do, but follow your dentist's instuctions.
While you may not be feeling 100%, you should be 1000% proud.
Excellent!!!!!

So glad you found an empathetic male dentist with good injection technique.(the blokes are often the best believe it or not). Congrats! It will all be easier from here on in. You've done the hard bit - removal of infected tooth.
Not being in the USA, I really don't get that Assistant looking in your mouth before the dentist thing - it is an added hurdle for embarrassed phobics as you say.

Way to go.....you are being mega cool ! (I know that last statement makes me sound really young, but I'm sadly not :giggle: )

No its ok mega cool is ok with me ive been called worse lol an yeah makes me nervous having her look in there first I dunno why but eh. So I guess this means I need to start a journal now to track the process ....even thought I still feel like iam going to be in here crayin in march when my next visit is haha. This place actually really did/does help me. People on here are understanding an have zero judgement on me[smiley=hugging.gif]so if.....WHEN I need more support do I post back in here?

Also this morning my upper jaw is sore.. Pretty sore actually ....is that normal?:o:(

Yes it being sore is very normal, and probably for the next few days. Stop poking it with your tongue you will dislodge the clot and then you may get dry socket, and you don't want that.
You know pain when you have dry socket, worse than any toothache I've every felt.

Eat what you feel able and comfortable eating. Just be careful the next few days.
All the best with your recovery.

When you need more comfort, yes you just come on here. You can keep us posted on your recovery if you wish or just drop in for a chat.

Take good care of yourself...I swear, you'll feel better each day.
So very, very happy for you.
BRAVO...keep the momentum going and you'll be in the success forum before your know it.
Saline rinses, saline rinses......

Banned,
I just wanted to give you kudos for facing your fear! I felt for you when you described your story in the beginning, I don't have nearly the pain tolerance! It is so great that you are doing this for yourself, thanks for being an inspiration over the past few days while I doubted I could face this! (I'm back on track now!) And good luck to you with getting things straightened out!
Peace!

Just wondering how your healing is going. Hope you are feeling much better and healing well.

We're all hoping to hear from you...hoping you're feeling better and hoping you'll stay with us, because we truly care about you.

Yep dont worry you cant kick me out of here lol ive just been layin low as iam starting to catch the cold my two kids had an passed to me. Healing is doing ok I guess I really dont have a unit of measure since I havent been there in so long. Still a bit tender an I cant brush that side really hard yet I kinds put my tounge in it an its a bit squishy still. But at least iam eatting what ever.iam just nervous of getting a dry socket cause I keep having to spit all this gross stuff out of my sinus an whatnot. I got kinda worried that I should be all healed now an I still have a bit of ache in my jaw.....thank you guys so much for actually caring an checking in. I hear from you guys more then any of my real friends....[smiley=hugging.gif]

It's still quite early days after your extraction I don't think you will get dry socket now, so I think you are safe on that score.

Maybe your friends don't understand what it is like to be phobic, that's why this site is good. We can all moan, feel sorry for ourselves and generally ramble on as much as we want. It is such a big deal that we even ring for an appointment, never mind going to the first visit. Unless you feel this way you couldn't even begin to understand. I think your friends don't realise and if they felt the way we do, would they tell?

We can be real wimps on here if we want and get all the sympathy and support we need. With you having a cold it can effect your gums. If I get cold or feel a bit run down it goes straight to my gums and teeth.

Wishing you a speedy recovery. Keep in touch

Hi Banned, glad to hear you're doing well. One of the dentists on here said you are usually safe from dry socket after 72 hours, so thought I would pass that on as a bit of extra reassurance.

Cool thanks I just have strange worries of getting one or food stuck in it. Hey I do have a question for everyone.....my upper teeth feel like they ache . Dumb way to out it but they feel like they would if id expect them to be shifting. Yeah I have some major crowding but tats the best way to explain it. Funny thing is is its not all the time just every now an then. Any thoughts on that. As I just keep thinking I did something wrong or something is wrong.

I don't think you have done anything wrong. Are you still doing salt water, I try do it every now and then just to try help, and keep things at bay. Just in case.

I don't know what you are having done on the 5 March did the dentist tell you. I know you are having a clean, is the dentist doing that. I can sometimes get the odd niggle with my teeth, I can worry myself a toothache or even a whole mouth full of pain.

If your worried ring or message your dentist and see what he thinks they won't mind best be sure.
I hope you're feeling better each day apart from your latest drama. I call it drama because it's like the worst thing in the world and so dramatically worrying.

It is probably nothing but best put your mind at rest, make the call. It could just be because you had the wisdom tooth out it has caused the rest of your mouth to play up a bit, and will settle. If it's giving you too much pain or even an annoying continuous slight pain take some painkillers to give you a bit of relief.
When we get pain we get tense which makes the pain worse, so it ends up being a vicious circle. Painkillers will just give your muscles in your face a chance to relax so stopping the pain hopefully.

Good to hear from you again. Keep going, you are doing well. All the best in your recovery.
