Hey please no judgement.. I developed dental fear from having my front tooth knocked out & put back about 24 years ago (the front one that sticks out), 6 years ago I had a crown put on it.. I’ve not been back to the dentist since, I have receeding gums which haven’t got worse in a long time but I know still are bad.

I’ve my first appointment this week & im so anxious.. I know the crown will need redoing it’s pushed forward a bit since I had it done, I’m convincing myself due to gums their all really bad & I’m going to need them all pulled out.. just looking for reassurance if that’s likely & happened to others.

Thank you in advance I know I probably sound crazy lol

Theres no way in the world you are going to lose all your teeth, so hopefully that one can be put to bed immediately.

Not going to the dentist for 6 years to be honest doesnt sound like that long to me, i think there must be loads of people that have gone 6 years between appointments, it doesnt sound too out of the ordinary.

was it anxiety that stopped you going back to the dentist after the last appointment? are there any specific things about going that are problems?

@haylee88 Last month I had my first appointment in 6 years too! I had not been since right before everything shut down for covid. Like you I was needing a repair. My 40 year old filling fell out. I was so sure I was going to lose my tooth and that it was too late to just refill it. but it is refilled and it didn't even hurt. Sometimes all you need for receding gums is a deep cleaning. I am sure you won't lose all your teeth. I have teeth where they told me I have brushed my gums away from years of brushing too hard. but I did not lose the teeth.

Thank you for the replies, the teeth themselves aren’t in bad condition, may need a little of the routine dentist clean but they aren’t discoloured or anything awful. It’s just the gums.. luckily not at the point of exposed root & no pain, I think when you have the phobia of dentists you build it up so badly in your head, also have an anxiety disorder which doesn’t help lol, then I Google everything & I found myself here lol. Just keep telling myself this time tomorrow night it’ll be over with, really appreciate the reassurance.

@haylee88 The anxiety can be overwhelming at times, I understand. I hope your appointment has gone well.
