Follow Up Post: Front Teeth Now Removed...

Hi Everyone,

I did update my previous post but not sure if it's been missed....

On 29th Sep i had my front top front teeth removed, a week earlier than planned as i had bumped my front tooth and it had become very loose and was causing me so much trouble, so i opted to have the teeth removed earlier.

I was petrified, but so glad that the hard part is now over and done with. I have to wait 10 days for healing and swelling to go down, then return to dentist for impressions.

My next app for imppressions is on 8th Oct

I was so shocked at the state of the root area of the extracted teeth, they were covered in gunk... not a nice sight at all. The smell was just as bad

I find it very hard to talk to my dentist, he seems to be rather abrupt so i choose not to speak to him much.

I have been left with no front teeth at all, my top lip sinks inside my mouth, leaving me looking like an old lady... i was thinking of buying some disposable face masks to wear as i am so embarrased about having no teeth at all. I did ask about have temp teeth but he refused saying i needed to let my gums heel.

I'm healing really well, and in no pain at all, infact i was shocked at how pain free it was and has been after wards... The worse part was the injections.

I have been house bound since having my teeth out, it's becoming very hard as i have 2 young children who are getting very bored, i have a big fear of someone seeing me like this... i look so awful.

I do feel much better after having the teeth removed, but i have to wait a long time with no teeth, any advice would be appreciated..

Hi Lou,
I am sorry that your dentist did not offer you immediate dentures. Nowadays, immediates would be the norm, but I'm wondering if skipping them is now widespread within the NHS .
Not having been in your situation, I don't have any suggestions (maybe someone else here will chip in though ). There are also some support groups for people who are getting or wearing dentures, and someone there might have some tips? You can find links to these groups at the bottom of this page:

Hi Louise,
Have you decide what you will use to replace your teeth?
I will soon have to have the same thing done as you,..all four top front teeth removed.
My dentist wants to replace them with a porcelain fused to low noble metal bridge when my four implants have integrated but I don't think I want that.
Have you any idea what you will get?

When I had my teeth pulled, I had a problem with the gums and roots as you did, and a small bit of infection from a botched job on one of my teeth and as you said, it was ugly and smelly. I needed time to let the infection clear out, but had trouble with my lip sinking in the gap, and I found that a mouth-guard used for sports filled my upper line back out if I was in public. It looked funny, but unless I spoke to someone and opened fairly wide, they couldn't tell it was in and didn't cause me any trouble. I only used it when I knew I would be seeing people in public, and left it off the rest of the time. You might give it a whirl. I only paid $3 (US) for my at a local drug store. They had white, clear, black, red, shiny pink and shiny blue, and glow in the dark. I took white for obvious reasons. I hope that this might help!

Hi Gellia, I'm not actually sure what i'm going to have in replacment for my missing teeth. As i mentioned in my post, my dentist is forgein and i find it hard to understand him.
I did however speak to his dental nurse who explained that i would most likely have a denture, but will see what options are open to me when i go back on Wed for impressions...

I must admit that having no teeth at all , has been a real struggle for me, only on the appearance side of things, and my speach is also slurry lol

But not long to wait now, should hopefully have my new teeth the week commencing 13th... (<<<<< then i can smile like this)

Anyhow, i will certainly keep this posted updated and add photo of my new teeth once i have them... Fingers and toes crossed that they look fab

Thanks for the info, i did consider using a mouth guard but unsure where i will be able to purchase one ?? I will shop around... were u able to talk ok with the guard inplace?

The main concern i have is how my lip has sunken into the gap, it looks dreadful, when i talk you can also see my tounge flopping around inside my mouth, which is not a nice sight...

I guess bu using a mouth guard would make life easier for me, (if it can be used while talking) I can just tell people i have to wear it while my mouth is healing. Seeing a mouth guard inplace of a hole, flapping tongue and a no teeth must be a far nicer approach....

Louise, you can get mouth guards from Boots chemists and also from some sports stores. There are some that you soak first in warm water before putting them in your mouth, they then mould to your mouth shape. They harden up afterwards. Try the rugby section of a sports store as that's where they are most likely to be!!

Think i will 'sit it out now', i went for impressions yesterday and should only wait max of 5 days for my new teeth.

I have gone 10 days with no front teeth, so another 5 wont hurt....

Sounds like im getting used to having no teeth,
