Re: the major Depression

Yes Marz, I have been depressed about it all as well, it is a traumatic thing and it takes time to adjust, but I think the 'waiting for it to happen' was the worst bit, it will definitely get better! [smiley=hugging.gif]

Re: the major Depression

how long do you have to wait??? x

Re: the major Depression

Re: the major Depression

Re: the major Depression

Hi there!
I'm sorry you're feeling down. It's a very overwhelming process, sometimes. I treated the long stretch I had between appointments as a dental sabbatical. I tried not to avoid the feelings, and I tried to focus on the things in my life that are making me happy and feel good. It ended up being a very productive time and helped me sort out some of my fears about the whole dental process I'm going through.

I hope you feel better.

Re: the major Depression

2week to go to get fitted ughh ;D

Re: the major Depression

me too....

maybe we should all get together and jump off a bridge and solve our dental issues permanently!

Then no more pain with the teeth we still have.....and no emotional pain for the teeth we have lost.

And then the dentists won't have any money to make the loan payments on their yachts! Solves everything.

Ya same here.

But I suppose we could always invest in implants...eventually, maybe...

The idea of taking our partials/dentures out at night may give some people severe anxiety attacks and send them running to the nearest ER for IV sedatives LOL. But maybe not.

Or maybe we need to find lovers with missing teeth? LOL. Put that on our THINGS WE REQUIRE IN A PARTNER LIST.

1) Missing teeth, and or partials/dentures.

Re: the major Depression

Lol at LMT's partner requirements!
I am sure you will both be loved again, years ago I had a very nice boyfriend who turned out to have full dentures, he told me after a couple of weeks and I hadn't even noticed! It did not put me off him either!
Cheer up Marz and LMT, the time will soon pass and you'll both be able to do this ;D

Marz, anyone who would reject you because of dentures isn't worth your time anyway. NOBODY is perfect..we all have physical faults. When you love someone..the faults don't matter. [smiley=hugging.gif]

Still Waiting and Getting MAD

well my teeth were removed on may 28 2010 and iam still toothless waiting for dentures i have a fitting tomarrow but they are not telling me what is going on my summer is shot now my vacation is moved up to sept yuck but is this normal idk i think the dentist is slow or idk :-[:-[8-)

Re: Still Waiting and Getting MAD

Hi Marz, I was about 11 wks without teeth and I can totally empathise with your frustration as I was the same[smiley=hugging.gif].At my lowest points I felt like I was wasting almost a 1/4 of a yr not being able to do much but then you have to really put it into perspective as IT WILL be worth it, you must believe that Marz.Just think of how much not having teeth you can feel comfortable about showing was making you feel, how much it was impacting on your life. That's what I had to do.There was so much I wanted to do and I just couldn't because of how ashamed I felt about the condition of my teeth.Marz it was affecting me so badly I was having panic attacks and would not go out unless I really had to and I almost forgot how to talk to people, that's no way to live*:'( . My dentist said he didn't want to see me until AT LEAST 6 wks post extraction, he wouldn't see me before then , then it took 4 different weekly visits with getting the impressions/moulds etc done before I was able to walk out of the dentists with teeth;D.Hang in there Marz you are almost there[smiley=hugging.gif][smiley=hugging.gif][smiley=hugging.gif].

Just noticed you have been waiting almost 10 wks THAT DOES SEEM LIKE A LONG TIME, no wonder you feel how you do.

Re: bricks in my mouth

I know..they DO feel huge at first. I'm sure it's hard to believe right now..but you do get used to them over time. Honestly, I forget I have mine in when I get busy now. You just have to give yourself time to adjust. [smiley=hugging.gif]

Re: bricks in my mouth

i will have to wait 2 weeks for the finished product i guess

Re: bricks in my mouth

Mrmarzipan, I know EXACTLY how you feel. The first time I had an impression taken I was 16 years old and I was so excited to be getting nice shiny teeth, and as soon as that gunk went in my mouth I gagged and gagged. I didn't think I'd be able to bear wearing the denture when it was ready. Sure enough, when he put it in, I gagged again. If I hadn't had such a lovely and wise dentist at the time, I probably would have pulled it straight out, but he said to me "just keep your mouth closed, breathe through your nose, don't talk for at least an hour, it will be fine." And guess what? He was right!

That was many years ago, and a few months ago I had to get a lower denture, so I had both upper and lower impressions done for a whole new set. I was sure I'd have no problems, being as I'd worn my upper denture for so long, but as soon as he put that gunk in, off I went again. So much for him telling me it was psychological, ha! If it was psychological, then my attitude (that it wont happen this time) would have prevented it.

When I got my new upper denture, I put it in and yep, you guessed it, I gagged on it. It felt HUGE. But I remembered what my dentist of so many years had told me, so I closed my mouth, breathed through my nose, and didn't talk for 2 hours. (The not talking was the most painful for me, lol). And now, I'm not even aware I have it.

So what I'm saying to you is, please DON'T give up. Impressions make a lot of us gag (they're a LOT bigger than the denture will be), and the first few hours of wearing the actual denture might (or might not) also feel uncomfortable, but you WILL get used to it much faster than you currently believe. All you have to do ;) is "close your mouth, breathe through your nose, and don't talk for a few hours!"
