hi first of all i wish i had looked after my teeth, but its no good wishing is it.

my problem is i have been told i need a full extraction, due to the state of my teeth.ive been told by my local hospital there is a 10 week wait before they can do it,i then have got to wait 3 months before i can have false teeth....?,so ive been told, is that true.

i am off to college in sept and i was hoping it would be quicker than this,im thinking of pulling out of college because of the embarresment.

what i wanted to know some of my teeth are down to the root only, could a dentist pull them out under a local anethestic.some gums have closed over the roots what will happen to those teeth roots, will they stil need to come out, thank you in advance for any help and advice.

Hi and welcome to the board! So sorry to hear what is going on but you are definitely not alone at all. Where are you located? Someone on this board may be able to give you some guidance based on where you live.

Hi olivacs :),i live in the east midlands in the uk.

Kind of depends what the x-rays look like, if the roots are very submerged and they have no contact with the oral cavity at all, then they may not need to be removed. Again depending on your mouth, it may be possible to get false teeth made before the extractions and have them fitted at the extraction stage, but I can't tell from here :)

Get yourself along to a dentist and see what they say.

Hi gordon,i went to see the specialist at my local hospital today. he said there will be no problem taking whats left of my teeth out,but ive got to decide if i want a local sedation, or a general anesthetic.

i would like to be out of it, but ive got a morbid fear of not waking up from a general, and im to scared to have it done when im awake.

he did see on the x-ray that i have 2 teeth that never came through but,he said they wont cause any problems and they will leave them there, have you ever heard of this before, thanks.

Hi [smiley=welcome.gif]

I too am in east mids.........crap weather today isn't it.
Have you got to wait for dentures because its the NHS or is there a medical reason.
Do you mind me asking which hospital? I'm currently on a waiting list for Birmingham

Weren't you offered sedation, which is a kind of halfway state between general anaesthetic and local anaesthetic only? Seems to be exactly what you're looking for.

Yes, leaving totally unerupted teeth alone is very normal.

Hi Ami the weathers been horrible the last few days.

ive been told that i will be waiting about 5 or 6 weeks before i have it done my hospital is in nuneaton.it was my own fault for not looking after my teeth, wish i had know.

i thought that i would get dentures straight away but my dentist says that i will have to wait about 4 weeks,he said i cannot have immediate dentures on the NHS,and im only allowed one pair,is that true,gordon....?

with sedation do you feeel any pain as that wouldnt make your mouth pain free would it...?,thanks again for all your help and advice.

Thanks for putting me on the spot :)

One pair at a time! And there will be a time limit before you can get a second pair. There are pros and cons to immediate dentures, something you really need to discuss with your dentist.

Sedation: you will not remember anything, you might experience some discomfort but you will be able to communicate that to the dentist who can then do something about it. It's pretty unusual for that to happen though since local works much better with sedation.
