I’m ready to go to the dentist again

@letsconnect oh to answer about my husband, he hasn’t had any cleanings done at this office only an exam but he’s getting a crown for a root canal he just had at another office at the office I had my cleaning done the day after my next deep cleaning. I wish I could be like him, he has zero anxiety about dental work. He understands why I’m afraid and tries to calm me down.

I guess I’ll keep updating on this post so I don’t keep making new ones.

So it’s been 8 days since my first deep cleaning and it’s been a rough recovery. I have the worst canker sore I’ve ever had on my inner bottom lip and my bottom row of gums are red and cut up. I am wondering how common this is?? I really dread going in next week to do my top teeth because what if I get more mouth sores?

Also next week I want to see if I can wait 3-4 weeks to come back and do my fillings because I need to make money. My husband and I do OTR trucking and the way trucking is set up is atupid because if you don’t drive 24/7 you don’t make money. I hope they won’t be disappointed or mad? Idk I’m worried they’ll not like that but what else can I do? I need to make a living

@krlovesherkids777 I hope you’re doing well! Thank you for responding to my ramblings lol. I’m doing better now, my gums are 95% healed and my canker sore is nearly gone. It was a rough week but I’m glad I’m ok now. I’m a bit less nervous about going in for my other deep cleaning on Wednesday, I just mostly dread the shots still but I’m ready to have a clean mouth again.

@honeybee91 I can't see why or how they could be mad at you for not being able to get everything taken care off at once? If that's their attitude, you might want to consider taking your business elsewhere . Glad to hear that you're almost healed!

@letsconnect I only mentioned it because the hygienist didn’t seem to understand our schedule, and I felt defensive because she seemed like it was weird to keep coming back every few weeks. To me that’s weird, I’m sure she has many patients who need to schedule around their jobs. My next appointment is on Wednesday and my husbands is thursday, I’m hoping I can hold off at least 3 weeks so we can make two checks before I come back for my fillings

@letsconnect I think she was more confused because we are currently living in our semi because she wanted to know if I could keep coming in but we have no car and no home base currently. I just get defensive when people act like my life is odd I guess lol. (We own land in this city and are having a home built soon, it’s just not ready) it gets exhausting trying to explain it to strangers.

Today is the day, yesterday the dentist called and asked my husband to come in today instead of tomorrow so we can knock both these appointments out today which is great. I’m feeling apprehensive but so far not as bad as the first time. I’m taking my headphones with me to listen to an audiobook during the appointment, I hope it helps me relax

So I did it! Just got home from my deep cleaning. It again wasn’t fun, the shots hurt way less this time but my wisdom teeth and two front teeth had to be numbed again because wow I felt intense pain. My husband sat with me so it went much better for my anxiety, I’m very happy he did it for me. Afterwards the hygienist told me to keep up with my home care and we can go back to twice a year cleanings. I sure hope so!! My next appointment is Jan 14th to get two cavities filled.

honeybee, So glad to hear from you and you got it done and the shots hurt less! I'm glad they numbed you again since it hurt! Sorry you had to feel intense pain but glad they took care of it! That is great you have that support from your husband! Sounds like you are gaining some really positive momentum in your journey!

Well unfortunately I need to reschedule my dental fillings for next month..I’m just extremely worried that putting it off another month will be bad. I have no pain or sensitivity in any of the teeth and I’m flossing twice a day, using Phillips electric toothbrush twice a day and reducing my sugar intake as I read sugar can make cavities worse. Should I be this worried? I asked dentists on Reddit but haven’t received any responses.

Sorry to hear that you had to reschedule! As long as they're not really deep and touch-and-go root canal territory, it should be ok! Re. sugar intake, it tends to be not so much the actual amount of sugar, but how frequently your teeth get into contact with it. There's lots of more detailed info here:

honeybee91... Agh... I am so sorry for your experience! The scolding and the painful shots, I agree with Letsconnect.. It should not be like that at all. Do they have any other options or hygienists? I know some offices have multiple ? I'm glad your husband took you out to get some pho afterward!

I don’t know if I have asked or mentioned anything here on this website but I have a molar tooth #15 that shifted due to a missing bottom molar from several years ago. My dentist recommended I get it pulled when I get my wisdom tooth out. He didn’t explain why he wants it pulled, it does have a cavity but is that a good enough reason? And will my other molars shift when tooth 15 is pulled?

That’s really a question to ask your dentist, who has actually seen the tooth and the x-rays. If they’re not willing to discuss things with you or if you’re not totally comfortable with them, it would be best to look for another dentist. You should feel completely at ease with them and happy to ask any questions or discuss any concerns.

I agree with @letsconnect if you don't have a peace about something and still have questions, I would push pause until you do. And some dentists are more approachable or anxious friendly than others. Also for some reason some dentists and clinical staff can come across just matter of fact and clinical and not think of the impact of the news or how it may create anxiety where other dentists really do. My MN dentist would sit down and talk with me and answer all my questions anytime I was nervous about something and I would get a peace of mind about it . I really appreciated that. again, totally second Let's advice!
