I need encouragement & advice please

Ok this will be short,but basically i have 2 appointments booked. 22nd & 30th October.

I'm already worying about both appointments, & doubting i'll be able to cope with 2 appointments within 2 weeks.

So i'm considering cancelling 30th appointment,for a later date.

I know deep down,it'll be better if i go to both appintmets. But i'm finding it impossible to convince myself.
Just feel soo sick,thinking about 2 Dentist Visits so close together.

So what i do ? Should i postpone for a later date ?

Hi Issy,

Fom experience, i have found that having too long between appointments is more difficult to deal with. What if you cancelled the 2 nd appointment and couldnt get another one before Christmas? Thing of the prolonged anxiety you will have whilst waiting for your next appointment.

i know it seems a lot to deal with, 2 sessions of treatment in 2 weeks, but it will be over and done with then you can relax.

I'll make a deal with you. I've got 3 : appts within 3 weeks.If I go to mine I want you to go to yours.Actually I'll go to mine if you go to yours cuz you're before me .seriously though I know you've been on here for a while and you've been a great inspiration to a lot of us cowards.I'm convinced that in the hands of the right dentist that things will be ok.If your familiar with Kenny Rogers song "Coward of the County" this ol' coward is gonna kick dental phobia's butt some day!!!!Just have to get the courage to do it.End of the rambling.....Bottom line ... please keep the appointments.If the first one is absolutly horrible ask for a SHORT postponement but be sure to get it done.I wouldn't postpone BEFORE you have a chance to see how it goes.Could be (and we hope it will be ) smooth sailing Good Luck!!!!!!!

You do know what to do Issy, as I said in PM. You specifically made the appointments within that time period because you wanted as little time as possible to start getting nervous again. The sooner you get it over with the quicker your teeth and gums will be treated and besides which, you did it because you aren't working. If you postpone any appointment, you will lose money if you have to have time off work, or even though you have late appointments, surely if you go when you're off work, you can go in daytime and not get caught up in the London rush hour. So my girl, it boils down to the fact, you will DO NOTHING, just turn up for both appointments. I'm sure everyone on this board will say the same.

Issy, you are seeing one of the top dentists in the country that specialises in working with nervous patients. Jenny can only do so much though - you have to be prepared to start changing the way you think about things and the way that you approach the situation as well. Nobody will say that it's easy... because it's not. We've all been in the same boat (and some people still are), so we know how it feels and yes, it is scary and full of worries and doubts sometimes. The past is in the past though, it cannot be changed. But what you can do is learn from it, move on and do things differently in the future. There is a saying: 'If you always do what you've always done, then you'll always get what you've always got'.

If you can start to see that after these two appointments you'll be well on the way to a nice healthy smile - then maybe it's time to start focusing on that .

i was terrified,yeah youve heard it all before i know.
this is me 18th jan 2006
im stood in a car park in a busy town opposite the surgery with my hubby
im screaming and trying to sit on the ground and swearing at him that I WILL NOT go in.
im 34 at this time. to say i was terrified was an understatement, hubby said hes a lovely man i said i didnt care how nice he was and didnt care if they all fell out. i
now its the 13th october 2007 and im looking forward to seing c again, i will worry about it but i KNOW he will NEVER HURT ME.
ive only found this out by going to my appointments its hard sometimes and i prefer appointments closer together so i worry less.
what im trying to say is you need to work with jenny thats the biggest thing i had to learn to do and you will need to as well,but youCAN do it .

You must listen to SS, she really does have the right answers. If you get your teeth cleaned now, the gums will heal and stay healthy with regular checkups.
You don't want to face losing your teeth at such an early age and that's what will happen if you don't start treatment and stay with it.
I don't mean to lecture, as I know how terrified you are, but I think you would be more unhappy as a young girl losing her natural smile.
Please make the right choice, so many of us want the best for you!!!!

I wouldn't flog into London,if i didn't want my mouth to get healthy again.

My worst fear is loosing my teeth (coz i'm only 22). But i can't seem to beat this fear of the Dentist.

I think you are still having 'trust' issues but I'd guess the valium should help with that too. You're probably cringing because you are anticipating pain which won't in fact be there....again valium will probably help.

Yeah i do still have Trust issues with Jenny. Guess it'll take me a while,to learn to trust her  

Dad is in London on the 22nd   Haven't told him that i need him to bring me home. I'm gonna tell Mum tomorrow & get her to tell Dad.
Then there's the complications of Dad getting into the City. (he works in Sloane Square)

Don't worry about how he's going to get there - it's easy. He can get on the circle or district line from Sloane Square tube station, then get off at Monument and walk 3 mins to Bank. Won't take him more than 20 mins and I'm sure he won't mind as he'll be doing it to help you! xxx

Yes Issy but that's for the best now she presumably knows you will be accompanied..it's just much more likely to work well for you with a bigger dose which means you can get that nice clean feeling.

Have you ever been tired? And did you loose control while being tired? I doubt it.
Sleepy = kind of tired and most importantly less anxious, not ASLEEP.
